Expert Analysis
Bobby Lopez | Prep Hoops Scout
Birkans was a key piece for Cherry Creek all season, bringing a scrappy, do it all presence every time he stepped on the floor. He competed on every possession, fought for loose balls and never backed down from a challenge. His energy set the tone, and he found ways to impact the game beyond just scoring. When needed, he could step up and put the ball in the basket, making timely plays that mattered. Birkans’ toughness, effort and willingness to do the little things made him a reliable contributor and an important factor in Cherry Creek’s success

Birkans is a 6’3 Senior for Creek who feeds off what the defense gives him. He’s not a player who stands out on the scouting report, but that is what makes him so dangerous, as his role switches from each game. We’ve seen him as a rebounder, facilitator, and connector. He’s been asked to defend players when they’ve gotten hot and slowed them down, and that just shows the versatility there. To start the new year, he’s been in a groove, which is a reason why Creek has been rolling. He’s one of the top duo X-factors in the conference and we’ve been keeping tabs.

Birkans continues to carve out a valuable role through his versatility and effort. Right now he’s averaging 7.8 points, 3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists a game. He fills gaps on both ends while keeping the offense flowing. He defends multiple positions, attacks inside using his frame, and makes the extra pass. His ability to impact games without needing plays called for him makes him an important piece for Creek and a player worth watching.

Birkans has a real opportunity to be a difference-maker in his senior season as Creek leans into a lengthy, versatile group. He’s a disruptive defender you can throw on anyone who gets hot, and he’s earned the green light when the ball swings to him. He’ll rebound, slash, rotate it, and spark runs. I’m expecting a noticeable rise from him this year and for Creek to utilize him.

The strong guard looks to take on a starting role for Cherry Creek, bringing a physical profile within the backcourt. His frame is accentuated by the high motor, often competing for second chance opportunities inside the arc. Birkans has grown as a perimeter shotmaker, either off the catch behind the arc or off the bounce from mid-range.
