Round 2 is here!

The field is down to 16 in 6A, where every matchup gets dissected, and adjustments matter just as much as talent. The contenders are starting to separate themselves. Depth gets tested, and identity shows up. Here's the primer of the biggest questions and observations as we head into the Final 16.

Use code dev30 for 30% off and secure access as we're finally in the postseason, so you don't miss any of our scouting.

Chaparral vs. Brighton

How will the stars perform?

Chaparral is the No.1 team in the state, and they get a challenge in the 2nd round of a team that could surprise you if you don't come out with some urgency. What makes Chaparral so good is simple: they have the best core in the state. When you have two scorers in [player_tooltip player_id='1722623' first='Christian' last='Williams'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2048132' first='Luke' last='Howery']. You always have a chance, and they can take over completely. They've been on a tear all season of course, and this is another opportunity to prove that there are levels. [player_tooltip player_id='2467733' first='Champ' last='Spears'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1577197' first='Luke' last='Williams'] round out the best core in the state. They star in their roles, can be the offense at times, and they also do the little things to separate themselves. It will be just as big that those two stand out as it is for their best players.

Can [player_tooltip player_id='2048128' first='Aiden' last='Wanrow'] hush critics?

Wanrow just went into a chippy game with a chip on his shoulder and delivered. I thought he was excellent in that game as he was the right level of aggressive, he made plays for others, and he also moved out of the way and allowed [player_tooltip player_id='1799814' first='Austin' last='Sickler'] to have his way. Sickler was masterful in that game, and they'll need that again. With the duo of Sickler and Wanrow both going at it and building on a big game, they have a chance, but it will take an alert big man who uses his size and skill offensively and protects the paint defensively. This is a huge test for him with the season on the line. If you want to be looked at as the best, you have to beat the best. I'm excited to see what Wanrow we get in this one

Mountain Vista vs. Northfield

Who else steps up with Michael?

[player_tooltip player_id='1622346' first='Judah' last='Michael'] has been one of the best and smoothest scorers on the entire season, and he put that on display in their last game, where he put up 38 points to keep the season alive. He went nuclear and against a Mountain Vista team that can match his size and physicality, I want to see if he can build on that and have another big game. I bet he shows up, but who else? [player_tooltip player_id='2048138' first='Evo' last='Montoya'] answered that call last game, but the player who really impacted the game as well was big man [player_tooltip player_id='2395829' first='Princeton' last='James'], who had 10 rebounds. He's a big inside presence and has his moments, and they're up against a big man who wants to deliver pain. James can match that and make a name for himself in this one.

Unlikely hero?

Mountain Vista is built around [player_tooltip player_id='2107072' first='Oliver' last='Junker'], and he's been one of the best bigs in the state, of course. This is a matchup for him to be aggressive inside and have his way in the paint. I expect it. But, who else? We have seen a ton from [player_tooltip player_id='2506227' first='Ryan' last='Vervaet'] lately. We saw [player_tooltip player_id='2492532' first='Hudson' last='Partlow'] step up big. The player who has been quietly playing extremely well is a name we haven't said in a while: [player_tooltip player_id='1903589' first='Payson' last='Land']. Land had 13 points in their last game. He shot the ball well, 3-4 from deep, he's been efficient, and he has excellent size, which can be a weapon for Mountain Vista. We want to see if he can have 3 straight solid games in a row where he's the team's X-factor. They'll need him in this one.

Round 2 is here!
