Vervaet feels like he’s been around for a very long time as a game-changing guard who the team trusts to get the guys going, push the tempo, and also make plays, and he’s done that, but now without a true go-to scorer its even more on him to be assertive and look to score. He had two games where he looked to score. He had a couple of blow-by kiss the glass layups, he talks on defense, and stayed in front of his man. His attacking and getting into the teeth of the defense opened up the rest of the offense for teammates. He got in and finished, kicked it out to open teammates, and got to the FT line. He is also the team’s primary ball handler, and he handled pressure well as opposing guards pressed onto him. He plays within the flow, doesn’t get too sped up, and is very impactful. Stock boosting day for him for sure and a solid camp.
Vervaet established himself as a big time scorer this season, consistently delivering when his team needed it most. His ability to knock down the three made him a constant threat, but he didn’t rely on just his shot as he attacked off the dribble and finished strong at the rim. Defenders struggled to contain him with his mix of shooting and driving ability. In big moments Vervaet showed no hesitation, stepping up with confidence and hitting key shots under pressure. His scoring versatility and clutch performances are what helped him stand out and make a strong name for himself this season
Vervaet has impressed with his command of the game as a poised lead guard for Mountain Vista. He understands tempo, knows when to attack and when to facilitate, and consistently gets into the teeth of the defense. He’s also shown an ability to play off the ball as well as he provides balance, pushes pace and makes smart reads. When he’s aggressive and attacking downhill, Mountain Vista elevates into one of the conference’s toughest matchups. We want to see if he continues this play as it has MV as one of the state’s top teams.
Vervaet’s rise into the rankings comes from his ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. Defensively he’s relentless using quick feet, sharp instincts and nonstop effort to pressure opponents and force mistakes. He never takes a play off, setting the tone for his team with his intensity and focus. On the offensive end he brings that same energy and precision. His explosive first step and smooth hesitation move allow him to get past defenders and create his own looks. With the ability to score from all three levels, he’s become a complete threat. That combination of defensive toughness and offensive versatility is what elevated Vervaet into the rankings and makes him a player to watch going forward
Vervaet really excelled at The Expo with his ability to shake defenders and create offense. He consistently makes defenders miss with quick moves, tight footwork and deceptive change of pace. When attacking he drives hard to the basket and shows the toughness and body control to finish through traffic at the rim. On the defensive side Vervaet brings energy and attention to detail, staying active on the ball and in help situations. His aggressive mindset puts constant pressure on opponents, forcing rotations and creating opportunities for his teammates. With his blend of skill, speed, and strength, Vervaet is a dynamic player who can impact the game on both ends of the floor
Vervaet is a 6’1 lock and you know what you don’t see much at a showcase that I hope is on display this year, top notch defenders. That’s Ryan’s role with Mountain Vista and that is what will have them as one of the best teams in the state. Their ability to defend. He’s a versatile defender that also is a solid offensive player as well and that was on display this summer. He has a knack for getting into the paint, finishing with mid-range shots and turning defense into offense. If he’s able to come out to the event and be just that — he becomes a game changer that more people need to have eyes on.
