Round 2 is here!

The field is down to 16 in 6A, where every matchup gets dissected, and adjustments matter just as much as talent. The contenders are starting to separate themselves. Depth gets tested, and identity shows up. Here's the primer of the biggest questions and observations as we head into the Final 16.

Arvada West vs. Grandview

Adjusting to the gameplan

In playoff basketball, the game plan becomes a bit more important, and teams key in on a specific guy. Valor Christian did everything in their power to limit Arvada West's best player, Keegen Balistreri, in its second-round matchup. But what did A West do? Figure out how to operate around him. They've seen plenty of teams go all out in this direction, and it backfires. One of the biggest reasons is that Senior wing, Anthony Torres, had himself a day. He finished with a career-high 22 points, he went 4-6 from deep, and when the team overcommitted to his shot, he found the open man. The Wildcats will have to have someone else step up in this one, especially, and Torres has been big this season for them.

Underclass standout?

[player_tooltip player_id='1622327' first='Noah' last='Sevy'] has been Grandview's best player and an offensive force on the season. He has size, he gets to where he wants, and attacks mismatches. Grandview can light it up and score with the best of them, and that is why this game will be fireworks because so does Arvada West. But who makes the defensive plays will be who wins the game. My guess is [player_tooltip player_id='2905494' first='Izzy' last='Kabongo'] is who is the difference-maker in this one, as he's been all season long. This will be a big test for Kabongo. A physical team that is keyed in on him, who will dare someone else to beat them, and can match his effort. He'll have to lock in on both ends of the floor, and I think he gets plenty of opportunities to prove himself.

Rock Canyon vs. Liberty

Battle of the bigs

Rock Canyon has what it takes to win it all, and they seem to be taking care of business. They don't play with their food, they don't have lapses, and they truly do execute in every situation. A player who's been their engine this season has been [player_tooltip player_id='2478614' first='Kai' last='Valentine']. He's on a mission right now, and opposing teams don't have the answers for him. He's scoring with ease, his effort is high level, and he's finishing above the rim with dunks. Liberty doesn't have many options to throw at him with the size, so I believe he's the player who makes the biggest impact in this game. Expecting a monster game.

Proving a point

[player_tooltip player_id='2139161' first='Cameron' last='Waithe-Cunningham'] took his team into a hostile environment against the defending state champs, and they went and took care of business. They got a double-digit win, they played as a team, but the big thing was Cam Cunningham looked like Cam Cunningham. This will be a matchup of two of the best 2027s going at it. They should be matched up against each other; they'll challenge each other, and that becomes the most personal match of the day that I'm here for. I expect him to finish at the rim, make plays for teammates as the defense keys in on getting the ball out of his hands, and for him to use his size to create and finish on mismatches. This is a big one for Cam stans and haters!
