13 More Key Standouts From Tacoma Quarterfinals

Yesterday, we had the quarterfinal round of play at the Tacoma Dome. Eight teams squared off in both the 4A and 3A tournaments, and these next players stood out in a big way for their squads. Check out some of the key standouts from yesterday's games.    9 pts 11 rebs 2 blks 2 stls   A near double-double and four stocks in the win over Edmonds-Woodway highlight the type of game-changing impact the sophomore forward has had this season. He's a long 6-foot-6 and really utilizes that wingspan to disrupt and clog things up in the paint. He's also shown a great connection with his other frontcourt players, working some nice high-low action.     15 pts 6 rebs 3 asts 2 stls   Alseth did a great job getting downhill, showing some patience in certain spots inside, and working his man under the rim on several occasions. He's long enough that he just worked his man back and forth until he got within close range and then finished around and over defenders. Also used his pivots and ball fakes well when multiple defenders were around.     17 pts 6 rebs 5/9 FG   It was an efficient game for the Edmonds-Woodway guard, who picked his spots well and mixed in some outside shooting with some composure in the paint. He also converted a tough layup inside that cut Bellarmines' lead to six points with just over three minutes left.     13 pts 5/6 FG 3/3 3PT   Babbs was another Beach Viking with a strong first half that kept Beach within striking distance, while Tryan Stokes was held to just six points. Babbs, known for his athleticism and play around the rim, made some highlights with alley-oop finishes and blocked shots, but also came up huge from 3-point range, going a perfect 3-for-3 on the day.     18 pts 4 rebs 7/13 FG 3/4 3PT   Brooks was pretty effective behind the arc for the Irish, going 3-for-4 from outside. That outside shooting was key to them breaking the tough Vikings defense in the first half and helping O'Dea out to a five-point halftime lead. He's also a guy who generally is pretty efficient working around the paint, and he showed off some athleticism at the cup with a very impressive fingerroll, scooping the shot around a contesting Stokes.     16 pts 3 asts 2 stls 6/10 FG   Bowman was very physical inside on the offensive end, on his way to an efficient 16 points. He was finishing through traffic at the rim and showed some good patience and pump fakes to get defenders in the air, creating easier looks.     13 pts 7 rebs 3 stls   Holt has been in a groove since the district playoffs, and his play has been instrumental to the Abes' run to the semifinals. He started the game off with a big block trailing the play, and continued to show his physicality around the rim with some second-effort finishes, and some impressive plays in transition.     10 pts 9 rebs   Lewis drew a tough defensive matchup to start their game against Eastside Catholic, guarding the Crusaders' big man [player_tooltip player_id='1685489' first='Yeabsera' last='Aklog']. He showed a lot of grit and toughness throughout the game, nearly putting up the double-double. He was relentless on the glass and attacking the hoop, drawing eight fouls in the game, one that sent Aklog to the bench for a long stretch in the second quarter.     13 pts 5 rebs 3 asts   He was a constant presence finishing at the rim yet again, and a lot of them were either over or through tight defense. He's got some supreme ability to elevate and finish through contact, and Mt. Spokane had no answers for him in the first half as he constantly beat his man to the hoop.     13 pts 10 rebs   Pierce was everywhere to start the game, getting to the rim, working hard on the glass, and just playing with outstanding energy all over the court. He caught his defender napping a couple of times with baseline backdoors that led to easy buckets, and put forth a scrappy, hard-nosed effort that got Gonzaga Prep some extra possessions in a game that ended after two overtimes.     18 pts 6 rebs 2 blks   Nasinec had a strong first half with 12 points, finding some rhythm behind the arc and adding in some blocks on the defensive end. He was contained for much of the second half, but showed up big at the end of regulation to help push the game into extra time.     16 pts 4 rebs   Hunt had a relatively quiet first half scoring the ball, but displayed great vision off his paint takes, and had a couple of big threes. In the second half, he came through with another clutch three to take the lead and go up two with 2:23 remaining. He also used his craftiness inside to work his way to the foul line and get some efficient points.     10 pts 6 rebs 2 blks 2 stls   It wasn't a great overall shooting night for Cummings, but in a tight, defensive game, his three 3-pointers proved big. It also felt like each rebound he had was a big one, and he was a key part in Lake Washington getting the ball out after defensive stops and up the floor. He also had some big defensive plays inside that helped hold [player_tooltip player_id='2375333' first='Zach' last='Albright'] to 12 points.
