Brooks is a two-way guard with the length to make disruptive plays on both ends of the floor. He’s been very effective scoring around the paint, and has the quick stop-and-pop ability to pair with some length that helped him knock down a bunch of short jumpers. He’s also a grinder on the defensive end, has good reactions to help out on the glass, get pokes and deflections, and just finds ways to get involved on both ends.
Brooks was pretty effective behind the arc for the Irish, going 3-for-4 from outside. That outside shooting was key to them breaking the tough Vikings defense in the first half and helping O’Dea out to a five-point halftime lead. He’s also a guy who generally is pretty efficient working around the paint, and he showed off some athleticism at the cup with a very impressive fingerroll, scooping the shot around a contesting Stokes.
O’Dea is showing early on that they are a serious contender in the 3A, and Brooks plays a key role for the Irish. He’s had a huge impact across a lot of areas as a skilled, high-effort player. Plays pretty composed with his attacks and catches around the paint. Finds space, makes simple plays, remains balanced, and showcases good touch around the paint. Can rise up quickly for those short jumpers to capitalize on space, and has been a key defender this winter.
Brooks is just a guard who finds ways to have an impact on the game. Whether it’s scoring, defending, or making an extra pass, he finds ways to contribute in a lot of areas. He searches for good shots, has a dependable motor, and his athleticism allows him to be a versatile matchup defender.
Brooks is an all-around guard who can impact the game in a lot of ways, and much of that comes down to how strong and hard he plays through everything he does. He defends on and off the ball, boxes out, protects his dribble, and marks hard, quick attacks. He had a great sequence on Tuesday, entering the ball to the high post from the top, relocating to the wing, and getting the ball back, then attacked the late closeout, drew help, and found the high post diver for a layup.
Brooks is only listed at 6-foot-3, but his length and athleticism make him seem taller, and one can guess that’s how ballhandlers feel when he matches up. He’s a lengthy defender who has quick hands to disrupt on the ball and can really rack up steals, pokes, and strips. He’s also a fairly fluid ballhandler who can get to his spots in the midrange and around the paint, where he has a reliable jumper. He’s an athlete at the rim too, and should be a kid to watch this winter.
Brooks did a lot of little things well over the weekend and brought some good energy to contribute across the board. He chipped in on the glass, attacked the rim with some purpose, and was excellent defensively. He’s a guard with some big athleticism who looked pretty solid with his decision-making and ability to compete on both ends.
He’s a guard with some good length and athleticism who was active defensively, pressing up on ballhandlers and staying ready off the ball. Brooks also showed a little wiggle with the ball and looks like a solid slasher who can bring intensity and match up with various positions.
