Aklog was in the top-10 in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, free throw percentage, blocks, and was the only player at the tournament to average a double-double. His impact in the paint cannot be understated. He really had his way with most matchups, and only struggled in their game against Mt. Spokane because of foul trouble. He was clearly one of the most dominant players at the tournament.

Just a dominant performance for the Crusaders’ big man, and while a good amount of it was built off of deep post catches, Aklog still showed that blend of power and finesse that makes him so special. Whether it was fighting through two to three guys in the paint or showing off impressive acrobatics on drives from further out, he’s going to be a key guy on every opposing team’s scouting report throughout the tourney.

He’s been a force in the Metro this season whose skill at 6-foot-11 makes defenders follow him all over the floor. Really imposing presence from the blocks and rebounding at a high rate, but can also play further out, face up and knock down jumpers, and stretch defenses from 3-point range.

Aklog was pretty dominant when he got the ball deep on the blocks or offensive boards right by the rim, and he also showed good poise and patience to play through multiple bodies in close. But a big separator for him is his ball skills and the potential they show. For instance, he chased a long rebound down to the corner and seemed stuck but quickly reversed to the baseline and drove it in for two. Another time, he was able to get a rebound and push the ball himself through the open court, maneuver around one defender, and then find the right pass for a shot. And finally, his ability to knock down shots away from the hoop showed up as he hit some contested midrange shots on the face-up. He’s a strong kid who can thrive by the rim but also possesses skills that allow him to play in other areas and highlight his potential.

Aklog made a big impression over the weekend and after putting up just seven points in the opening game, he went on to score 17, 24, 22, and 14 points in their next four games. The big man also averaged 7.0 rebounds per game during the final four games and shot an outstanding 33-52 FG (63.5%). He found general ease scoring inside, seeking contact to neutralize shot blockers, showing skill to finish with either hand on either side of the hoop, and working hard block to block to set up good angles for entry passes.
