Expert Analysis

Williams-Crawford impressed with his 2-way versatility throughout the contest. He used his length to rebound, gather steals, and contest shots. He scored 20 points and accumulated those buckets in an array of ways. He kept defenders on their toes when he showed that he is a capable shooter. I love the activity he has whenever he steps onto the floor.

Williams-Crawford knows his role and is always going to stick to it. The 6-foot-7 wing isn’t known for his handle or offensive creativity, but he’s a phenomenal slasher to the rim because of his athleticism, physicality, and finishing ability. He caught multiple lobs at session 1 and is one of the better all-around athletes in the region. I was also particularly impressed with the way he saw the floor and passed the ball—he seems to have made some major improvements in that area, and it’ll pay dividends for his success next season at Towson. Defensively, JWC always defends like a madman and has incredible versatility as a result of his size, length and speed.

Williams-Crawford is mesmerizing on the defensive end. CATS was running a 3 on 1 fast break drill in which lobs and head-tapping dunks were happening constantly, but not against JWC. When he’s on defense, he does an amazing Draymond Green impersonation by protecting the hoop, stunting at the ball-handler, and playing the passing lanes all at once. He has incredible length, athleticism and instincts and should be one of the best perimeter defenders in the entire country. Special defender who will immediately lock up at the next level. The shot is still coming along, but that would massively improve his recruitment if he can figure that out.

Williams-Crawford is coming off of an impressive travel circuit season with Expressions. The CATS Academy wing put it all together in July, showcasing his offensive and defensive versatility. He’s got good size at 6’7″, is incredibly long, and has terrific mobility. He can guard up and down a lineup, making plays in passing lanes, cleaning up on the glass, and blocking shots from the help side. Offensively, he gets out and runs the floor in transition, can make plays as a slasher in isolation situations, crashes the offensive glass, and can even set screens in screening actions. He’s one of the most versatile players in New England and is a true connector with his ability to fill whatever role is needed for his team.

– one of the best scorers in the region – and shut him down. He slides his feet incredibly well and even though Kamin seems thicker than him, he was still able to hold his own strength-wise, which few are able to do with Kamin. Not that he wasn’t before, but this performance really solidified Williams-Crawford as maybe the best defensive player in the region. He also does the little things offensively, like making quick extra passes and attacking the offensive glass.

Fresh off a state championship at Charlestown (MA), Williams-Crawford wasted no time getting acclimated to prep ball, winning co-DPOY honors in the vaunted NEBL. A sinewy wing with enormous length and twitchy fluidity to his movements, he thrives within his role as a defensive ace, cutter, and transition playmaker. A clear D1 prospect, Williams-Crawford has the defensive tools and team-first approach to eventually translate to the highest levels if he’s able to polish his ball skills or increase his consistency from the perimeter.

Before Williams-Crawford got hurt midway through the second half of the game (it looked like a pretty bad sprained ankle), he was putting on a defensive masterclass. In the first half, they stuck him on

, who he completely shut down and made life hell for. Henderson will be having nightmares about him. Then, in the second half, he guarded Christian (Mouse) Williams, who had success getting into the paint and leaking out in transition in the first half. But once JWC started guarding him, he couldn’t find any room to operate. Williams-Crawford’s defense is truly special and will be sorely missed if he can’t go tomorrow.

Williams-Crawford is one of the best defenders in the region, and he proved that against Wilbraham and Monson. Whether he was attached to Ryan Kranz’s hip as he came off screens or sliding his feet with Darius Ajakaiye Darius Ajakaiye 6'1" | PG Wilbraham & Monson | 2025 State New E on the perimeter, JWC showcased his incredible versatility on that end – he’s truly able to guard 1-4 successfully as a result of his combination of size, athleticism and hands. The offense will need to improve if he’s going to get high-major offers, but the 6-foot-7 wing has another entire year to work on that. The future is so bright for him, and this’ll be a very important spring and summer.

He put on good lean muscle in the last couple years and much stronger at absorbing contact. A strong passer with fast ball like throws. Post moves have improved creating space. Ability to stretch the floor knocking shots down. A perfect athlete for 1-3-1 or 2-3 zone with his lateral quickness and wingspan.

Williams-Crawford makes it very hard to take him off the court. At 6-foot-7 with great length, he spends the entire game glued to the opposing team’s best scorer, constantly hounding them for 94 feet. On the offensive end, he can do a little bit of everything and especially excels when he gets a head of steam in transition. If NBA scouts were to draw up what a modern basketball athlete would look like, Williams-Crawford would be pretty close. Height, length, and ridiculous jumping ability. Safe to say the sky’s the limit for him.
