Riak is now at Combine Academy providing his versatility at both ends as a 6-foot-7 wing. What stood out about him was not only his length and athleticism around the bucket, but his overall motor and effort as a connector for this team. He’s a fluid mover and good at relocating around the perimeter to put himself in position for kick-outs where he can catch-and-rip, covering significant space in minimum dribbles to free himself up for looks. He guarded multiple positions on the floor effectively and made multiple efforts on the glass as well as a weak side rotator.

Riak, an athletic hybrid forward from CATS Academy in Massachusetts, makes an appearance in this update at #49. Incredibly long, he has plus positional size and is a fluid mover in space. He does a nice job of playing with a high motor, has a great activity level on the defensive end of the floor, and is a capable shot blocker when coming from the help side. Offensively, he runs the floor well, uses his length to finish at the rim, and does a nice job of knocking down shots in catch and shoot situations. He’s a solid straight line driver, can operate as a screen and pop guy, and does a nice job of making the simple play instead of foricing the issue. He’s a definite scholarship prospect with the tools needed to play at the Division I level.

It was tough to get a great look at Riak during the winter as he split time between CATS’ powerhouse ‘AA’ team and their secondary squad, but the native of Australia took advantage of the opportunity with his Expressions Premier group to show off a well-rounded two-way skillset on the wing. With great positional size, dripping length, and graceful movements, Riak has the physical tools and unselfish approach to slot comfortably into a coveted 3-and-D role at the next level. He shows a nice activity level on the margins, using his length to stick his nose in the play and come up with loose balls or bother opponents’ shots. Offensively, Riak keeps things simple while showing a comfortable straight-line handle in space and smooth standstill stroke from the perimeter. He certainly looks worthy of attracting D1 attention over the course of the summer.

Riak is an extremely intriguing long-term prospect. The 6-foot-7 wing is super long and athletic; he’s springy on fast-breaks and smooth when it comes to getting up and down the floor. Skillswise, he’s a really solid shooter and can handle it well for his size and length. He’s also a willing and able passer who has decent vision. Some added strength would do Riak wonders, and I think it could propel him into the mid to high major category of D1 players – he has some time to do so. Bright future ahead for a guy who has all of the physical tools you could ask for.
