About Donovan
Expert Analysis

Davis loudly stated his case to why he is the #1 ranked player in the 2027 class in the most recent Prep Hoops rankings. Donovan was an X-factor once again on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. The 6-foot-8 junior erased several Mustang shots directly at the rim. Davis is very talented at blocking shots and disrupting half court offense without fouling, a skill that is underrated in frontcourt players. Donovan plays a crucial role for the Irish’s no middle defense, walling off potential layups when teams baseline to score. On the offensive side, Davis saw a full face guard within the Little Chute zone, but it was not enough to shut him down. Davis led all scorers with 20 points, doing his damage from the line, from the post, and on put backs on offensive rebounds. Donovan is an explosive offensive rebounder, which allowed Freedom to get several second chance points in this matchup. Davis competes with a supremely talented Team Herro in the club season, and his interest from high major programs will multiply as the AAU season progresses. An Iowa assistant coach was in attendance to take in Davis’ skillset and high potential on Thursday night.

and was extremely efficient. Davis finished with 28 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals, and was 12 out of 13 from the free throw line for the Irish. Donovan was outstanding attacking in space downhill, operating out of the post, and electric in transition finishing and finding his teammates. This was one of the more impressive games I have seen from Davis, who has several division 1 offers, as he dominated from the tip in all aspects of the game. Donovan is a must-watch prospect to go out and see in person before his high school career concludes next school year. Things are setting up for Freedom to take on the undefeated Seymour Thunder in what could be the best sectional semifinal in division three.

Davis is the #1 ranked prospect in the 2027 class in the most recent rankings released. Donovan has earned this ranking not only due to his scoring, but his ability to impact the game in other ways. Davis was held to only four points on four shots, but secured 12 rebounds, and five assists in his game versus an extremely talented Slinger squad. There are not many prospects that will gain that much attention from opposing defenses at the high school level. Davis still has the skillset, athleticism, and leadership qualities to lead Freedom to more wins the rest of the season and a deep run in the postseason. He has a very interesting matchup with

Make the right pass. Swish the big shot. Grab the contested rebounds. And block away shots near the hoop. Davis does all of those things on a nightly basis and each of those attributes helped Freedom stay undefeated and rally past Prescott after trailing at intermission. Davis finished with 22 points for Freedom, but he also was instrumental in the trapping pressure the Irish employed in the second half, often double teaming the ball and making it difficult for opponents to see over him.

Fox Valley Lutheran was able to slow Donovan down in the second half, but a big first half helped power his team to a win. When Freedom wasn’t able to get much going on offense, it was Donovan using his length and agility at 6’7-6’8 to help create turnovers which led to easy transition buckets. Donovan was able to move his feet with ease against smaller wings and forwards in the half-court, and I can only remember one time where I saw him give up a bucket on the ball. He was a force on the glass as well, swallowing up every rebound he could get a fingertip on.
