Alex was putting on a show with Team Herro 16u yesterday against Big3. It started with his play on the defensive end of the floor, as he looks to be moving way more fluidly than he did a year ago, and was able to move his feet to get into position to make plays as a rim protector at 6’7. Really utilized his length to wall up and force a number of misses inside. Offensively he was able to handle the ball with ease in the open floor, and was aggressive looking to beat smaller guys off the dribble to get to the rim. Improved shot selection from a year ago as he’s now making it a priority to get good looks at the rim rather than forcing tough jumpers.

One of the more intriguing prospects on the Team Herro 16U EYBL squad, Robbins has opted to reclassify from the 2027 class to the 2028 class and plans to transfer from Iola-Scandinavia to a prep school. He missed much of last season due to an injury, but he’s back on the floor and playing well on the club circuit for the state’s top program. His length, bounce and ball skills away from the basket are impressive, and he figures to continue his climb toward scholarship-level basketball with two more years of seasoning. This is a guy to keep an eye on for the future as his ceiling is very high.

Robbins was unbelievable for the Thunderbirds in Bonduel on Saturday night. Alex has an extremely high ceiling due to his long frame and elite athleticism. The six-foot-six junior wing was unstoppable and unguardable a majority of the time on Saturday night. Alex has advanced footwork around the basket that allows him to use pivoting to make shots at the rim, fadeaway from the midpost, and find his teammates on assists. Robbins is an athletic and physical offensive rebounder that kept several possessions alive for I-S with his strong ability and desire to clean up the glass. I have seen Robbins play in summer league, so I was well aware of his explosive athleticism but his dunks were jaw dropping in this contest as he punched two powerful dunks down in transition. Alex is still developing other parts of his game, as he had a shifty 1-2 pullup in the half court, and hit a few perimeter shots in this game. He finished with 25 points in this affair and led all scorers. Robbins continues to grow as a player in his development, and should gain significant buzz this AAU season as one of the state’s top juniors.

Fresh off receiving his first NCAA Division I scholarship offer — from Western Michigan earlier this month — Robbins flashed oodles of potential at The Expo. He is a small forward who can put the ball on the floor and attack the rim while also flashing a smooth shot from outside the arc. Robbins is quick off his feet and can easily finish above the rim, tear rebounds off the glass and lead a fast break if needed. He will need to add some weight and physical strength for the college game, but Western Michigan coaches definitely got the jump on one of the state’s better juniors.

Alex is another player who can play as a big wing or in the stretch four role for a team depending on who’s around him. I liked how much more aggressive he was this year than last year at getting to the rim and utilizing his frame to finish inside. Alex wasn’t afraid to initiate some contact and compete with physicality around the rim. At 6’6+ he also showed that perimeter skillset that makes him an intriguing long-term prospect. In his first game of the day Alex simply dribbled into a pull-up three that he hit with comfort on two early possessions. Robbins is moving with more fluidity than he did 12 months ago, and with his combination of length, athleticism, and skill on the ball, he looks set for a big junior season.
