There might not be a more watched prospect than Hoel this weekend. In the game I viewed, Drake, Colorado State, Illinois, St. Thomas, Iowa State, South Dakota State, UWGB, UIC and Western Illinois were all on hand to watch the versatile and mobile frontcourt prospect. Charlie is able to gain great positioning due to his physicality and intelligence on the block, and finished very well in his game against Roncalli, converting a few and1 finishes. Hoel is capable of guarding in space, stepping out and hitting shots, and facilitating offense in transition and in the half court. Hoel competes with Wisconsin Playmakers
and is bound to add to his UWGB offer he received this weekend, to his division one interest.
Hoel’s strong showing this spring for the Wisconsin Playmakers
has yielded NCAA Division I scholarship offers from North Dakota State, Northern Illinois and South Dakota State. His length, impressive skill and future growth in terms of strength are all positive attributes for the Stanley-Boyd forward. He is able to score around the basket with the ability to put the ball on the ground and get around defenders while also facing up and scoring from the perimeter. His length and bounce allow him to rebound and block shots as well. Hoel averaged 20.7 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists as a junior for Stanley-Boyd.
A player to monitor over the next 12 months due to his size, mobility and skill, Hoel is not a finished product by any means. He has to get stronger and play more consistently. But at 6-foot-9 and with a 7-foot-1 wingspan, Hoel has some obvious attributes. He had a solid spring/summer on the circuit with a very good Wisconsin Playmakers
New Balance Prelude squad that ranked among the best in the state. And he figures to be a go-to player for an improved Stanley-Boyd squad this winter as they attempt to challenge for the title in the always competitive Western Cloverbelt Conference. Hoel currently holds a DII scholarship offer from Northern Michigan.
