I can’t sit here and try and pretend that Akan is going to surely go from really good JV player to a main ball handler/playmaker in the Lake for a top five team. BUT….. I can tell you that Akan was outstanding for the Northstar Titans making decisions, pressuring the ball and attacking the paint helping the Titans be a top ten 17u team in state. If Berisso can transfer what he did in 17u to the Crimson, Maple Grove and Berisso are going to be in a good spot.

Can a player go from JV to top 25 in the state at his spot? That player can when you play like Akan did for Northstar Titans this past 17u season. Also keep in mind, Maple Grove had a D1 point guard in Max Iversen so that plays a part too. Akan had a good JV season for the Crimson and then was outstanding for the Titans this 17u with his attack, defense, and decision making.

– Berisso is a six-foot 2027 guard from Maple Grove that plays hard, can lead from the point, solid passer, and active defender. Berisso is quick laterally and good reach that enables him at times to get blocks. Berisso can get by defenders for scores as he’s an adequate finisher like going 7 for 8 from the floor versus a Sanford Sports ND team in June.

put together a strong performance Tuesday night against Wayzata. He excelled in the point guard role, playing under control and consistently getting his team into their offensive sets. Akan has a knack for making the right basketball play, whether it was swinging the ball around the perimeter to find open shooters or attacking open lanes for finishes at the rim and mid-range pull-ups off the dribble.

WHY?
He is a tenacious defender who is great at using his body to make contact with opposing guards. Akan is a tough downhill guard who constantly gets in the paint and finishes through contact or finds the open man. Berisso is a team-first player who is smart and unselfish with the rock.

Akan was another impact defender, using his lateral quickness to make plays on and away from the ball. He came up with a pair of steals during his first few minutes on the floor, and took one all the way to the rim for two points. Has a quick first step to attack the basket in the half-court when he sees a gap.

Akan is a point guard that can create on his own as a scorer. A quick handle on the ball and crossover to get by his initial on-ball defender. Got to the hoop and created contact to get to the line. He’d attack the hoop relentlessly and keep going until he was stopped.
