Jameson Vargas
About Jameson
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
My gameplay style is well rounded-high energy with consistent effort and endurance to run the court on both sides of the ball. I contribute offensively as a high IQ playmaker: scoring consistently in the mid or three point range, and by assisting my teammates. Defense is my strong suit. I am physical and persistent, making an impact with both rebounds and steals.
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
I am a very supportive and unselfish teammate and my mindset remains positive, even in tough and high pressure situations. I am a strong communicator and I am also coachable and responsive to feedback, as I know I still have a lot to improve on. I have a high ceiling and I am grateful for the opportunities I have been given so far and I will continue to put in the work to achieve my goals.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
At my current school, Sproul Junior High, I am involved in our school news program where I rotate as a news anchor, video editor, and content creator to provide communication to our student population. To add, I have earned academic honor roll in every semester of junior high, currently holding a 3.9 cumulative GPA and taking all advanced core classes.
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
I was voted captain of my football team by my teammates because of my ability to lead. I continue to do so on the basketball court by encouraging my teammates, calling out plays/ talking on defense, while controlling my emotions and setting a good example. As a teammate, I have learned to be trusting and commit to my role, because we all contribute and play a part in the teams success.
Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.
One challenge I faced was dislocating my shoulder in June,2025. I had to sit out of two basketball tournaments with my team, I went to sit on the bench and support. I had to rest for 5 weeks which was mentally tough, since I really wanted to be on the court. I trusted the process and completed physical therapy so that I could return, healthy. Now I am focused on building strength and muscle.
What type of college are you looking for?
I’m looking for a college that will prepare me for my life after basketball. It is also important for me to find a college that has a competitive basketball program, focused on a “team environment”. For example, a community that feels like a family, where everyone is committed to winning, improving, and supporting each other.
