Sectional 4 gains two programs known for playoff success over the past few seasons in Cambridge and Kenosha St. Joseph. Cambridge, which moves to Sectional 4 from Sectional 3, lost to Milwaukee Juneau in the WIAA Division 4 title game last March while St. Joseph returns to Division 4 after playing in Division 3 the past couple of seasons due to the WIAA's competitive balance formula. St. Joseph lost in the Division 4 championship game in 2023 to Luther and in 2024 to Mineral Point. Both teams figure to be among the very best teams in Sectional 4 in 2026-27 along with defending Division 4 state champion Milwaukee Juneau, among others.

Following is a look at the top players and top teams in Sectional 4:

Milwaukee Juneau -- With potential Mr. Basketball-award winner Donney Johnson leading the way, the Pioneers look to make it two state titles in a row this winter. Coach Torre Johnson again will rely heavily on his son Dooney, a skilled 6-foot-5 guard who has committed to Gonzaga and is ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the state's 2027 class by Prep Hoops Wisconsin. [player_tooltip player_id='2194315' first='Dooney' last='Johnson'] averaged 27.3 points and 8.3 rebounds as a junior for a team that went 28-1. However, the Pioneers have a couple of big holes to fill with point guard Takis Tyler and forward Jaden Hardiman graduating last spring. Look for junior [player_tooltip player_id='2530851' first='Corey' last='Collins'] (6-7) to have a big season for the defending Gold Division champions of the Milwaukee City Conference.

2. Cambridge -- The Bluejays got hot at the right time last March as coach Alex Ranney's squad advanced all the way to the Division 4 title game before falling 62-54 to Milwaukee Juneau. Three starters are back along with a couple of key reserves for the Capitol South Conference program. Juniors [player_tooltip player_id='2933465' first='Ian' last='Nelles'] (6-1), [player_tooltip player_id='2933467' first='Evan' last='Harbort'] (6-4) and [player_tooltip player_id='3019288' first='Cash' last='Cunningham'] (6-0) started in the Bluejays' impressive 71-49 state-semifinal win over Bonduel. Junior [player_tooltip player_id='2714923' first='Oscar' last='Brown'] (6-3) and seniors [player_tooltip player_id='3019286' first='Jack' last='Baker'] (6-3) and [player_tooltip player_id='3019292' first='J'Kari' last='Crawford'] (6-0) will play key roles for a defensive-minded team that competes with poise and toughness.

3. The Prairie School -- Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='2140901' first='Chandler' last='Perry'] (6-3), [player_tooltip player_id='2508284' first='Dalton' last='Ahlensdorf'] (6-5) and [player_tooltip player_id='2508306' first='Ryan' last='Vanoss'] (6-5) have three years of varsity competition under their belts while juniors [player_tooltip player_id='2503099' first='Emmett' last='Wassil'] (6-3) and [player_tooltip player_id='2550915' first='Hunter' last='Greb'] (5-11) are both two-year varsity performers for coach Jason Atanasoff. Those five players are not only experienced, but also very talented. And each appeared to take a big step forward in their game over the spring and summer on the club and high school circuits. The Hawks hope to contend for the crown in the Metro Classic Conference and have some depth to make that potentially happen in the form of freshmen DeMar Bell (6-1) and [player_tooltip player_id='3566208' first='Brady' last='Remington'] (6-4) along with senior [player_tooltip player_id='2399561' first='Owen' last='Jedlicka'] (6-5).

4. Kenosha St. Joseph -- Few teams in the state control the tempo of the game better than the Lancers, who work the ball for high percentage shots and then get back and defend well as a team. Coach Kyle Clark has some key pieces back as St. Joseph again takes aim at an upper-division finish in the rugged Metro Classic Conference. Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='2508296' first='Christopher' last='Kenesie'] (6-0), a Northern Iowa football recruit, brings toughness, physicality and the ability to make big shots to the Lancers' lineup. Juniors [player_tooltip player_id='2354009' first='Reymundo' last='Garibay'] (6-0) and [player_tooltip player_id='2401618' first='Eric' last='McCray'] (5-11) are talented backcourt players with Garibay proving to be one of the better long-distance shooters in the league the past two seasons. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='2763283' first='Charlie' last='Guttormsen'] (5-10) and [player_tooltip player_id='3717214' first='Henry' last='McTernan'] (5-10) along with incoming freshmen [player_tooltip player_id='2859540' first='Brayden' last='Knight'] (6-0) and [player_tooltip player_id='3680565' first='Mihailo' last='Pupovac'] (6-4) also figuring to make contributions.

5. Howards Grove -- The Tigers have come agonizing close to the WIAA State Tournament over the past decade or so, but have lost some close sectional games, including last year's 75-69 sectional-final setback to Milwaukee Juneau. Four key players are back for coach Wade Georgeff in seniors [player_tooltip player_id='2417144' first='Trace' last='Damrow'] (6-5), [player_tooltip player_id='2920427' first='McCoy' last='Milbrath'] (6-1), [player_tooltip player_id='3020323' first='Harry' last='Schroeder'] (6-0) and [player_tooltip player_id='3020320' first='Reid' last='Vandoske'] (5-8). Those four players each bring different attributes to the court and mesh extremely well. Damrow is a difference maker with his combination of size and skill while Milbrath plays much bigger than his height. Schroeder can fill it up from deep and Vandoske is exceptionally quick. Georgeff's two sons, freshmen [player_tooltip player_id='3630519' first='Jordan' last='Georgeff'] (5-11) and [player_tooltip player_id='3630520' first='Oliver' last='Georgeff'] (5-9), could also factor into the regular playing rotation for the Tigers.

Sleeper Team

Kohler -- Living Word Lutheran, Roncalli and, possibly, Heritage Christian are all sleepers in Sectional 4 along with the Blue Bombers of Kohler. Coach Ken Roeder's squad gets the nod as the premier sleeper squad in the sectional thanks to the return of some talented seniors, a winning culture and a difficult schedule that should prepare the Blue Bombers for a potential playoff run. Versatile senior [player_tooltip player_id='2883490' first='Carter' last='Zimmermann'] (6-3) headlines the list of returning players as he can score at a high level while also playing physical defense and hitting the glass with regularity.
