This is a section with a ton of talent.... but the depth of Hopkins and Wayzata right now is something that you just don't see. And that is the deal at the top right now in big school basketball: teams like Maple Grove, Hopkins, DeLaSalle, Totino-Grace, CDH, Wazyata and Tartan, it's at such a different level. We have seen teams with depth before. But the gap of multiple teams with depth versus those ranking just under them has really hit a new level.

6AAAA Power Rankings

Wayzata

Hopkins

Edina

Buffalo

Minneapolis Washburn

St. Louis Park

Robbinsdale Armstrong

The Section 15

First Team

[player_tooltip player_id='1560778' first='Nolen' last='Anderson'] of Wayzata (Sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='2126115' first='Vincent' last='Cronin'] of Edina (Jr)

[player_tooltip player_id='1550877' first='Jayden' last='Moore'] of Hopkins (Sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='2420169' first='Ahmed' last='Nur'] of Hopkins (Jr)

[player_tooltip player_id='1560867' first='Christian' last='Wiggins'] of Wayzata (Sr)

Second Team

[player_tooltip player_id='1560839' first='Xavier' last='Frelix'] of Hopkins (Sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='1874906' first='Kyree' last='Nelson'] of Hopkins (Sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='2397563' first='Thomas' last='Jordan'] of Buffalo (Soph)

[player_tooltip player_id='1560801' first='Brady' last='Lam'] of Wayzata (Sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='1560847' first='Tommy' last='Shunmugavelu'] of Wayzata (Sr)

Third Team

[player_tooltip player_id='2433532' first='Max' last='Beeninga'] of Wayzata (Jr)

[player_tooltip player_id='2842020' first='Xaviahn' last='Ivey'] of Wayzata (Jr)

[player_tooltip player_id='2560534' first='Tre' last='Moore'] of Hopkins (Soph)

[player_tooltip player_id='2388499' first='Anthony' last='Byrd'] of Hopkins (Sr)

[player_tooltip player_id='2575638' first='Izayah' last='Cook'] of Wayzata (Jr)

One Thought Per Team

Buffalo. Buffalo lost double figure seniors and that wasn't just bench guys cheering loud, that was starters, key reserves, and guys that found a role they played here and there. It's going to be a new team but still a talented team. If you saw [program_tooltip program_id='2821775' first='Buffalo' last='Legacy'] 16 and Under, you know that this team has talent and will win games. But it might take a year before they are hitting their contending stride considering they are in the Lake and 6AAAA with the [program_tooltip program_id='2075965' first='Trojans' last=''] and Royals.

Edina. I like Edina this year. No I do not think they have the depth of the top dogs but I do like the collection of players that includs [player_tooltip player_id='2430772' first='Mason' last='Mohs'], Gus Carptenter, [player_tooltip player_id='2126115' first='Vincent' last='Cronin'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2136339' first='Adryan' last='Miller']. Edina is going to win a good amount of games and have a great season.

Hopkins. The Royals are even deeper than I thought. [player_tooltip player_id='2388499' first='Anthony' last='Byrd'] came over from Cooper and is now 6'8 and he played great at the five last weekend. Jayden at the one, Xavier at the two, Kyree at the three, Nur at the four, and Byrd at the five. Or stick [player_tooltip player_id='2560534' first='Tre' last='Moore'] in there and go smaller. Throw in some of the young players, [player_tooltip player_id='2140686' first='Quinn' last='Bjerketvedt'], [player_tooltip player_id='2456058' first='Julius' last='Ellis'], [player_tooltip player_id='2138578' first='Vincent' last='Bottolene'], and whomever else I forgot, and you have a contending deep team.

Minneapolis Washburn. I look at Washburn and think they will be a fun team to see if they can win their league. [player_tooltip player_id='1874800' first='Brayden' last='Gorton'] is a very good player that would make most of the Section 15s out there but this section is so deep. I think the Millers can make a league run.

Robbinsdale Armstrong. [player_tooltip player_id='2813485' first='Alex' last='Olson'] is in place to be the next big name for the Falcons. This is a shooter with a lot of potential and in most sections we have him listed in that Section 15, but this isn't most sections. Whatever the case, I expect the Falcons to take a nice step forward.

St. Louis Park. As we said in the league preview this morning, the Os are going to be better than people expect. [player_tooltip player_id='2362161' first='Matthew' last='Johnson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2121351' first='Tanner' last='Rose'] are very good players and there is returning players from last year's bench that will help too.

Wayzata. Did you know that Samuel Mohs was all league last year and he returns for the [program_tooltip program_id='2075965' first='Trojans' last='']? Did you know that [player_tooltip player_id='1560752' first='Dylan' last='Brefeld'] is a good player that would be a returning starter for some teams? And Isaac Olmsted suffered a bad injury but maybe he can come back at the end of the year to help? Then you have transfer [player_tooltip player_id='2575638' first='Izayah' last='Cook'] who scored 17 a game for a top ten team last year as a sophomore in Class AAAA. We haven't even mentioned the group of six that we think we will look at for starters yet and it already sounds good. But yes, lol, lets keep Nolan, Christian, Ivey, Max, Lam and Tommy in mind as well.
