As we travel to open gyms across the DMV to get a look at the local talent before the upcoming season begins, we wanted to share with our readers our perspective of the team and some of the top players. Today, we'll look at the Georgetown Prep Hoyas and Sandy Spring Wildebeests of Maryland. Let's get into it!

- Coach Howard Blue brings in his deepest team in year 5 at the helm of Georgetown Prep with a host of returning seniors to lead the way. [player_tooltip player_id='1371865' first='Akbar' last='Waheed III'] steps into his senior year as the leading scorer that has filled out his game as a rebounder and facilitator while playing multiple positions based on matchups. '25 Army commit [player_tooltip player_id='1370506' first='Patrick' last='McDonough'] provides elite perimeter shooting, secondary play-making, and defensive toughness. '25 Loyola commit [player_tooltip player_id='2241992' first='Carter' last='Berg-McLean'] is the straw that stirs the drink as a slashing facilitator that is hitting C+S perimeter looks at a more consistent rate. '25 Dartmouth commit [player_tooltip player_id='1768901' first='Tyler' last='Garrett'] will provide a consistent screening, rebounding and scoring presence in the paint. '25 G [player_tooltip player_id='1494083' first='Akeem' last='Clark'] will bring energy and defensive versatility off the bench as a spark plug that can get the Hoyas in transition. '25 [player_tooltip player_id='1494078' first='Dylan' last='Gassaway'] provides a dynamic wing presence that can defend multiple positions at a high level, plays above the rim, and has begun to hit perimeter shots at a consistent level. '26 Windermere Prep transfer [player_tooltip player_id='1891144' first='Sinan' last='Huan'] will be a huge piece as an athletic big that can really protect the rim (6 blocks in two pickup games), finish plays around the basket, and hit shots from all 3 levels. Junior guards Jack McDonough and [player_tooltip player_id='2612994' first='Rafa' last='Monaro'] look to earn bigger roles as shooters that make the extra pass or dribble to space in the face of hard closeouts.

Really interested to see how team assignments and roles play out, because GP has a ton of high level young talent in the '27 and '28 class as well. [player_tooltip player_id='2454539' first='Jarrard' last='Desire'] is a scrappy '27 PG that really gets after it on and off the ball defensively, can attack closeouts and play-make for others, and can knock down open shots. '27 [player_tooltip player_id='2454538' first='Bruiser' last='Edwards'] is a true PG with a tight handle that passes his teammates open, knocks down open looks, and anticipates passes defensively at a pretty advanced level. '27 Macuei "Chum" Kodi has a nice skillset as a W/F tweener that can do a little bit of everything. Freshman big [player_tooltip player_id='2524416' first='Majok' last='Aguek'] is a skilled lefty that can already shoot and pass at a high level. '28 [player_tooltip player_id='2194751' first='Charlie' last='Orcev'] brings a dynamic all-around skillset as a scoring combo guard with good feel and passing instincts. And finally, freshman guard [player_tooltip player_id='2524418' first='Jahlil' last='Waheed'] will look to follow in big brother's footsteps as a shooter that evolves into a play-making wing that remains effective on and off the ball. With the mix of returning talent infused with some new pieces, I fully expect Georgetown Prep to challenge Bullis at the top of the IAC.

-Coach Shamsudeen leads a young group that has been reloaded with some intriguing talent. O'Connell transfer Sifeng Huan leads the way as a dynamic W/F prospect that can shoot, take guys off the bounce, protect the rim, and create for teammates at a high level off the bounce or from the high post/low block. '26 CG [player_tooltip player_id='1548389' first='Shane' last='Wellman'] has developed a tighter handle, has more active hands defensively, and can function both on the ball as a creator and off the ball as a shooter that can also attack closeouts. I like that Wellman is taking better angles to the basket, being more decisive with his driving lanes and with his cuts off the ball. Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='1370510' first='Darrion' last='Sardo'] has quietly developed into one of the top shooters in the area that can hit shots off the bounce or off of movement. [player_tooltip player_id='1956053' first='Jacob' last='Cox'] steps into his senior year as a deadeye shooter that is also getting into the gaps better offensively, probing the defense for the right passing angle. '27 6'3 Burkina Faso (Africa) transfer guard [player_tooltip player_id='2612976' first='Mattis' last='Yemboado'] is a name that college coaches will begin to track as a switchable athlete that can guard 1-3 at a high level and switch onto forwards, as he gets more comfortable with his role and style of play-- I expect his development to take off. Incoming '26 transfer [player_tooltip player_id='2612979' first='Kaan' last='Dağlaroğlu'] adds in more defensive versatility and shot-making for the Wildebeests. '26 guards [player_tooltip player_id='2453745' first='Nigel' last='Hickson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2256699' first='Julien' last='McGinniss'] fill out the rotation as guards that can knock down shots and distribute for teammates off of second side drives.
