About Jahlil
Expert Analysis
Ari Rosenfeld | Prep Hoops Scout
Also making a handful of clutch plays throughout Gonzaga’s 4OT thriller, Waheed came off the bench and showed significant upside in the heartbreaking loss. A slender wing with good positional size, he was at his best as an off-ball floor spacer, knocking down 3 of 8 attempts from the arc with a quick and confident release within the halfcourt flow. Waheed had no fear in the big environment, finishing with 12 points after a scoreless first half. He played with consistent energy, using his length and fluidity to make plays in the floor game, with intriguing flashes of ability with the ball in his hands as he learns to refine his decisionmaking process. With a strong foundation and bloodlines in his favor, Waheed appears to just be getting started in establishing himself as a high-level prospect.

Jahlil has a lot of potential. He is just scratching the surface of what he could be. Long and athletic wing who can contribute inside and out. He has a quick second jump and cleans up his share of rebounds in his area and puts backs throughout the game. Finish the game against Bishop O’Connell with 13 points on 4-13 from the field, 3-8 from the 3pt line, 6 rebounds and 1 assist.

A young flourishing wing guard who is developing into a steady prospect with a quality blend of size, shooting, and involvement on both ends of the floor. Waheed knows how to effectively move without the ball and apply pressure as a spot-up threat. He can knock down jumpers from midrange or beyond the arc but also displays solid vision and a willingness to make the extra pass. Next in his development process is working on the use of his off hand, as it would make him a more reliable creator against defensive pressure. Clearly has the qualities of a shooter. Looking forward to seeing Jahlil play with more strength and not try to force drives. Waheed highlighted some nice flashes throughout the summer playing with Team Takeover 15U EYBL and should be a key piece for first year Coach Keith Urgo at Gonzaga for the next three years. He is a scoring guard with a mature developing frame. He uses his length, quick trigger and pace to find space at multiple levels—and is a legit shot maker from both 3 and in the midrange. His on-ball creation makes him a comfortable secondary ball handler and his ability to create and find space consistently tilts the floor.

11p 1a 1r vs Spalding
-Waheed’s shooting and secondary play-making was one of the few offensive bright spots in a matchup with Spalding where he faced a variety of different defenders. Like that Waheed has made some improvements to his footwork when getting into his jumper– especially off the bounce or off of movement– that allow him to square up to the rim before letting it fly. The handle has improved to enable him to handle ball pressure and double teams and he is utilizing his pivot to create space whether that’s when he picked up his dribble on the perimeter or is angling for a better shooting angle in the key.
