Shime is another valuable hybrid forward on this list who’s best basketball remains ahead of him. However, the flashes over the last four months are starting to show the high upside that he offers on the hardwood while he also protects himself as a nationally coveted football recruit. Like Miller above, Shime has the archetype that many college programs and beyond are prioritizing as a skilled wing with length, but at this stage, Shime’s shot has progressed further to the point where his defender can’t fall asleep on quick swing passes. In typical Team Takeover fashion, the box score numbers of the players are never going to jump off the page and that’s credit to their balance throughout, but Shime ended his summer averaging 9.2PPG and 4.8RPG in EYBL play. As for Gonzaga, they’ll be one of the deepest teams in the DMV this winter, so again the stats will be spread out, but Shime had a nice showing in June for the Scholastic Live Period posting 13.0PPG while sinking 60 percent of his looks from beyond the arc in the Purple Eagles’ 4-0 showing.

-I wish I had gotten over in time to stat his second game to capture the development to his shooting but nonetheless came away impressed with the upgrades in Shime’s game. The handle has sharpened to get him from the wing to the rim quickly by taking advantage of his long strides. He’s increased his lateral mobility, speed, and vertical pop to become a switchable threat at the defensive end and a versatile wing at the opposite end. His help rotations to challenge shots at the rim raise the collective level of play of the teammates around him and I love how his activity has picked up. At the offensive end- he knocked down perimeter jumpers off the catch, threw down some big dunks in transition, and is a much better off-ball mover to give GZ a mobile connector or play-finisher in the paint. The physicality and improvements to his physique from the football field are transferring over well to the hardwood.

15p 2r 1a 6/9 FG vs Sidwell

-Shime might be due for a major bump in our next set of rankings updates if he makes production like we saw this weekend a regular occurence. Shime is a dual sport athlete (football) that can space the floor with his shooting beyond the arc (3/3 vs Sidwell), finish above the rim, and utilize a much-improved bag of pivot/finishing moves to get to the rim. The duality and diversity of his skillset on the wings could spell a bigger role this season for a talented young Gonzaga team that needs to replace graduating depth on the wings in order to chase a WCAC championship.

Patrick Shime Patrick Shime 6'8" | SF Gonzaga College | 2028 State MD delivered his best performance to date, coming off the bench to score 8 points on 3-4 shooting, including 1-2 from beyond the arc. A long and athletic forward, Shime showcased his versatile skillset, using his length to score from the perimeter and disrupt passing lanes. His physical tools and potential make him a prospect to watch both basketball and football.

Patrick can shoot with high efficiency from any range. He sticks out as a mature player that can play in any moment. He has a lot of experience on the big stage already as a rising sophomore, so the bright lights of Gonzaga will likely heighten his performance. Patrick knows where to be on the floor and he impacts the game past his shooting ability. Shime is not afraid to put the ball on the floor and get inside to finish at the rim. He has great size matched with a natural feel for the game. plays both sides of the ball and can immediately come in as a 3&D wing for the Purple Eagles when they need him.

The 6’6″ lefty forward showed a nice shot from multiple levels and some upside in that facet that will continue to develop with the coaching staff at the national powerhouse. Shime’s developing size inside allowed him to control the glass and pile up rebounds, while contesting shots that came his way as well.
