-Scott is adjusting well to a steady role for a Gonzaga team that injected some very talented pieces to the varsity team from both their freshman class and last year’s JV groups. Scott functions well as an off-ball guard that has the IQ to know when to call for a ball screen, when to attack closeouts, when to shoot, and when to keep the ball flowing around the perimeter. His instincts as an off-ball defender that goads opponents into throwing cross-court passes that he can pick off and begin a fastbreak with make him much more effective on that end of the floor. Love the way that he stepped in to take and make some big 3s that put away the win for Gonzaga.

Axton is young fundamentally sound guard who played with the poise of an upper classmen in transition and half-court sets. Unselfish with the ball in his hands and has burst when attacking the rim. Better as an off-ball scorer/playmaker than a primary but Axton has a good IQ, shot-making ability and defensive presence that college coaches desire. Knock down 2 big 3 pointers in the game against a tough Landon School to help Gonzaga secure a 69-65 victory. Looking forward to seeing Axton continue improvement under the guidance of Coach Keith Urgo.

-Can’t remember a time that I saw a PG this young that had this advanced of a level of feel with the basketball in his hands. Scott is a high IQ point guard that should have a chance to start right away under newly-minted head coach Keith Urgo on I Street. Scott really had it going offensively as he earned trips to the free throw line, knocked down 3s, hit a defender with a beautiful euro step to score on the other side of the basket in transition, and did a good job of controlling pace for the Purple Eagles. He plays under control and has a good understanding of where he needs to be on the floor at all times–communicating effectively with teammates to direct traffic as the head of the snake for Gonzaga. Expect him to have a productive career in the purple and white.
