-The big fella continues to turn in high-efficiency performances (9/12 FG) despite playing pretty heavy minutes for a Bullis group that needs the presence that he brings to the table. The game has slowed down for Potter and he is able to process things more quickly on the fly to rotate better to help to contest shots and secure defensive rebounds to ignite fastbreaks going the other way. Potter won’t physically wow you but has learned how to use his size and a pretty quick second jump to finish in tight spaces around the basket whether he is putting up the shot or hitting the putback. He is beginning to find cutters from the short corner–even when double-teamed– and is both keeping the ball high and going straight up into a finishing move to cut down on turnovers around the rim. He will need to have a big day for Bullis in a matchup tonight against a DeMatha front line that has been playing at a high level.

-Continue to come away impressed with the consistency and feel from the sophomore big that is a steady threat for double-double performances on a team that is working in some new pieces. Potter averaged 16 points and 7 rebounds a game on 58% shooting over the course of the weekend as a low post scorer and roll threat that has a nice set of hands to catch and finish in tight spaces in the paint. His conditioning continues to improve to allow him to play for longer stretches, duck in harder to create easy looks at the rim, and knock down jumpers from the elbows on tired legs. Potter’s offensive positioning to yo-yo move with slashing ball-handlers to be in position for drop-off passes has always been there but he has improved his defensive rotations as a helper that isn’t blocking a ton of shots yet but fills up space in the paint to deter drivers and challenges shots to disrupt his opponent’s offensive flow.

Potter’s role grew significantly as the year went on. If you ask me, it was a combination of him learning to adjust to the speed and physicality of the varsity level while simultaneously playing his way into shape. He’s a big body at 6-foot-8 with dependable mitts and soft touch on over the shoulder hooks or quick floaters off dump-offs. He progressed as a rebounder and understanding how to use his leverage to win battles against more athletic, springy bigs. His mobility, like other aspects of his game, improved with time as did his intent to rim-run and embrace contact while finishing.

Potter is a skilled big man at 6-foot-9 who can operate with his back to the basket and showcase feathery soft touch on over the shoulder hooks. He’s got dependable hands in the dunkers spot, good awareness on rolling to the rim after setting ball screens and can do his work early on establishing leverage in the post to put himself in position for offensive rebounds. He was yet another underclassmen who made the most of his time on the floor going 4-for-4 in 12 minutes for eight points off the bench. This was an up-tempo game as Jackson-Reed plays a smaller, faster brand of basketball that doesn’t necessarily compliment Potter’s strengths, but when he was in there his presence was felt. Expect for Potter to be a big piece of the rotation especially as Bullis goes up against opponents with more size in the frontcourt.
