The 6-foot-5 rising junior was one of the best players on the 17U stage this weekend and it was the precision of his three-point shot that caught my attention the most. There weren’t any extreme changes or adjustments made in his shooting mechanics, but the confidence and overall fluidity that the ball left his hands with were the best I’ve seen from Skipworth to date. On his 24 total attempts from downtown, he converted over 45 percent of them.
Playing off his teammates’ penetration, Skipworth quickly slid to open spots on the wing or faded to the corners for quick catch-and-shoot opportunities that he knocked down with supreme confidence. His weekend started on a high note in the comeback victory against Melo when Takeover trailed by double-digits with four minutes remaining. His shot-making prowess and decision-making on the ball shined bright in crunch time.
The top-ranked 2028 prospect sported a 22 point per game average in the three contests.

-Our #1 player in the class retains his spot at the top of our rankings after turning in a productive 2-way campaign for a rebuilding Bullis team. Skipworth extended his range to beyond the three point line, hitting shots both off the bounce and off the catch from all 3 levels with improved balance and consistency. Liked his versatility defensively for the Bulldogs as a guard that at points guarded all 5 spots, using his size to contest shots on the perimeter or scale up a few positions to guard bigs on the block on switches. Skipworth also flashed some playmaking ability with an increased role on the ball this year operating in middle ball screens for Bullis. Should continue to see his stock rise at a national level this summer playing up with TTO 17s on the EYBL Circuit.

Xavier had a solid offensive game and not from just scoring the ball. He was the main playmaker for Bullis in a rough shooting night, but kept the team close with timely baskets and pinpoint passing. Xavier and his bigs ran an incredible two-man game, with Xavier seeming to find the open man after each opening. He read the floor extremely well and made the right plays with the ball, even if the ball did not lead to any assists. Got to the spots he wanted with his dribble and used his size to over the top and beat double-teams or swift defensive rotations. Very impressed with this level of decision-making from the bright young guard in a high-level game.

-Our top player in the sophomore class has had a fantastic start to the season to prove his worth as the #1 prospect. Skipworth has continued to have a 2-way impact in games while also expanding his role within the offense as a perimeter jump shooter and secondary play-maker. Serving as the clear leader for a Bullis team this season to steady the ship for a team that graduated the other 4 starters, Skipworth is performing well in an alpha mode this year.

Legit national-level prospect. Incredibly fluid, explosive athlete with the ability to finish with power or space the floor as a shooting threat. Showing useful ball skills and quality defensive prowess. Just has a natural feel with the ball in his hands. Excellent scorer off the bounce and from outside, strong playmaker, makes the right decision on the court, and simply gives a gifted overall feel. Xavier possesses the college level plug n play size and skill set. Scored 24 points on 6-15 shooting, 7 rebounds and 2 steals.

Skipworth showed why he is the most polished player in his class locally with his 24-point outing against Jackson-Reed on Saturday. There were several possession in the first half where he looked like he was forcing the issue and struggled to find his rhythm because of it. While his jumper wasn’t falling, Skipworth made the necessary adjustment of attacking the rim often in the second half and piled up trips to the charity stripe where he converted 12 of his 13 attempts. The 6-foot-5 Swiss army knife also hauled in seven rebounds in the effort. What was most impressive was the amount of time Skipworth played on the ball. For majority of the contest, he was the initiator in the half court and seemed to show improvement with his overall floor awareness and provided clear growth of his leadership throughout the ebbs and flows a game where Jackson-Reed simply refused to go away.

-Skipworth retains his spot at the top of our rankings because of the impact that he has at both ends of the floor for his team. Skipworth can create his own shot at an elite level from the midrange, gets to the rim with regularity, plays with poise, can be assigned to an opponent’s best offensive player, is hitting shots at a higher rate, and is even getting some primary creator reps this season. The PG experiment was off to a pretty good start at Skipworth showed that he can use his scoring gravity to create for his teammates from a standstill or off the bounce, throwing a flurry of different passes with either hand. If he can show that the point guard reads are here to stay while improving his explosiveness and developing into a consistent 3 point shooter– I’d expect his development to continue its ascension at Bullis.

-Probably the best single game performance I’ve seen out of our top guy in 2028, as Skipworth put up 23p 6a 5r 2s on 45% shooting. Skipworth really had the jumper going in this one, stepping in to knock down midrange jumpers off lifts from the wing and stepping into pull-up 3s off the bounce. But what really stood out this day was his upside as a passer– Skipworth had a beautiful 1-handed dime to a cutter from the top of the key to make it a 4-point game with 4 mins left, executed a drive and kick to the corner shooter to make it a 1-possession game, and was really making good reads in the PnR. He answered an opponent’s made 3 by stepping in to knock down one of his own to answer at the other end and almost single-handedly kept Bullis in the game vs a tough Roman Catholic group. Also thought that Skipworth has put on some weight and added muscle to do better on switches in guarding post players without fouling. The Bulldogs will go as he goes this year, with the sophomore guard leading the way after 3 starters and several rotation players graduated last season.

-Our top player in the class remains there after a strong, consistent start to offseason play both in AAU and in various summer leagues/team camps. A strong 2-way guard with an old school scoring game with midrange pull-ups and faders, Skipworth has really improved his touch in the paint and is impacting the game more frequently as a rebounder. His value as a switchable defender that can scale up or down multiple positions makes him an invaluable leader for Bullis for the next three years.

. He was great in all areas of the game, and he did whatever he wanted offensively. He gets where he wants and he always seems like he’s in control. Xavier had 23 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists in a Bullis blowout win.
