-The senior leader bided his time on Eye St and was rewarded with a big role this season with the Purple Eagles. Peterson is a cat-quick PG prospect that blows up ball screens with his ability to get under his matchup to force traveling violations or deflections before the ball screen even arrived. Loved the tenacity that he showed denying the ball on both BLOB and SLOB possessions throughout the season, forcing 5-second violations and turnovers that gave his team positive momentum in key moments.

-Peterson carved out a nice role in Gonzaga’s rotation as a super pesky defender that jumps over ball screens to send his man to the sideline or back towards halfcourt to disrupt the offensive flow of his opponents. His ability to get into a rhythm quickly throughout the game and face guard shooters, matchup with primary ball handlers, and dig down on the post proved invaluable for a young Purple Eagles group that surprised a lot of folks this season with several upset wins. I always came away impressed with the way that his unselfish play trickled down the lineup, spurring runs and calling out plays for his team at both ends of the floor in year one of the Keith Urgo era.

Chase provided the experience and poise for the Eagles to capture there 7 straight DC Gonzaga Classic title. Although his numbers won’t explode off the page, it’s easy to see the value that Chase brings to this team. He’s a tough, scrappy, high-motor guard who provides an unselfish presence on both ends of the floor. Chase truly does all the little things. Whether it’s diving for a loose ball, quickly making the extra pass, or making plays defensively, he consistently steps up. Peterson knows how to fill in the gaps and impact the game without needing to score. His constant energy and involvement in the action make him an asset.

-Peterson waited for his opportunity and is capitalizing as a heady point guard prospect that is getting two feet in the paint and making the right play for Coach Urgo. Peterson had four assists and a steal before even taking a shot in the game, showing the unselfish leadership that this team will need this season in a rebuilding year for the Purple Eagles. Loved seeing him cut off ballhandlers’ path to the rim to force them to change direction or kick out to a teammate. Being able to play ball-hawking on-ball and off-ball defense should be extra valuable this season.
