-Love the way that Wellman is able to assimilate into any team to provide consistent play at either guard position. He took care of his normal duties of shot-making from the perimeter and play-making in the halfcourt but I think he has taken a step forward as a slashing guard that can finish past or over defenders with ease. His bag around the rim has gotten better but he understands how to play off of two feet and is balanced on his footwork moves around the rim. His scoring ability makes him a dynamic piece for a balanced Global Squad and should provide some nice scoring punch in a new role for Fairfax Christian off the bench.

Wellman is a scoring guard who has good positional size for the scoring guard spot. He shows that he can find the bucket in an array of ways. He does a good job interrupting passing lanes and coming up with steals. He does a good job maneuvering to different spots off the bounce. Wellman is active on either end of the floor with his play.

-Wellman got to it midway through the 2Q and never looked back, turning in an efficient scoring performance to stave off a late STA comeback on the road. Wellman creates space well with bumps on pull-ups or at the rim, physically overpowering his matchup to get off a cleaner look at the rim. He got it going early with a bump and lay through the contact, had a great sprint back to deflect a pass out of bounds and halt a fastbreak, hit a high dribble pickup to avoid the charge and lay it off glass, and relocated well for an And1-3 that he made through the contact from a late defensive closeout. Wellman’s ability to get to his spots in the halfcourt where he can function in equally-dangerous roles as a passer and scorer makes Sandy Spring’s offense that much more dynamic.

-Wellman has a ton of wiggle to his game, using hesi’s and hang dribbles to freeze his defender before blowing past him to the rim. Spent the evening getting two feet in the paint and causing havoc for his opponent’s defensive schemes, creating well for perimeter shooters while mixing in a few buckets off his pivot foot around the defender. Needs to put on weight and vertical explosiveness to get to the Division 1 level but the finishing craft, shooting ability, and feel makes you feel optimistic about it
