Over the weekend, Big Shots and Paul Biancardi set up shop at Henrico & Events Center featuring over 190 teams from the East Coast. Over the course of this week, I'll break down scouting notes on prospects from the 15-17 age group levels in a variety of states.

Regardless of class, Palmer was one of my biggest stock risers from the weekend in Richmond. The 6-foot-2 combo guard has one of the smoothest shooting strokes in the DMV and when he was hitting shots from deep like he was this weekend, it sets up the rest of his game. The ball movement within this Assault 16s group is exactly what you would hope for and when they're in a flow state, Palmer's floor spacing ability alongside others who can shoot it make for plenty of driving lanes to take advantage of as they battle aggressive closeouts on the catch. I was impressed with his playmaking once he had two feet in the paint and his ability to read the backline of the defense. In transition, whether Palmer initiated the break himself after grabbing a rebound or acted as the outlet, his eyes immediately scanned the floor where he zipped passes with either hand to teammates in stride for quick buckets. Palmer was the catalyst to Assault's 3-1 weekend that concluded with a 2-point loss in the championship game to Tre Mann Elite. Palmer averaged 11.5 points on the weekend.

Hawkins popped on my radar late last summer when he stood out at our Prep Hoops Expo event as a lethal shooter from deep. The relative of current New Orleans Pelican Jordan Hawkins, Jevon is starting to embody the same mindset as a scorer and has seemed to grow about two inches over the last 8-10 months. The confidence is evident as he pulled the trigger in the face of his defender on a handful of occasions with good results. He isn't the type that looks for the highlights or celebrates after a cold-blooded jumper. He goes about his business like he expects to make it. While he was strictly just a catch-and-shoot threat back in late summer, it was good to see his skill off the bounce in getting to spots within the mid-range area where he'd rise up for two's, maneuver his way to the basket for feathery soft floaters or make the correct primary read on the dribble drive attack.

The window for error with small guards like Camp is minimal and if more players would understand that their value lies in the ability to earn paint touches, break down defenses and find others consistently for easy looks, college coaches wouldn't be so dismissive in recruiting them. Camp possesses an explosive first step and gets great burst off his back foot attacking downhill to establish advantages as a slasher.

There were times this weekend where he forced attempts around the rim and either got blocked or couldn't finish the layup, but on the occasions where he played off two and made that rotating shot-blocker pay with dump-off passes to his big in the dunker's spot, good things happened. He's surrounded by lethal shooters from the perimeter and if his penetration was halted with an early show in the paint, he found his guys spotting up while defenders dug in on his drives. Camp is a stout defender with quick lateral speed and active hands.

As the weekend progressed, Arungwa kept demanding my attention with how hard he played on both ends of the floor. He's a physical, tough-nosed guard who can play on or off the ball and contributed in the scoring column as he made his mark from all three levels. [program_tooltip program_id='2528398' first='TTO' last='Showcase'] finished the weekend 2-1 with a loss to DC Assault in the semifinal, but the 6-foot-1 sophomore showed why he'll be ready for the varsity level as a junior . His best outing game in a 15-point performance against RockIt MHC on Saturday where he buried three's and finished through contact around the cup. He's a prideful defender who can make life hard for his man as he meets them at half court on every possession.

Laws is a prospect that is playing up and age level and one that coaches speak highly of in the long term. He has good size at 6-foot-1 and I liked that the speed of the game didn't seem to overwhelm him at all. On this VA Elite 16s team, Laws made his mark playing off the ball and being shot-ready, particularly from the corners where he buried his share of triples throughout their three-game run. He'll be a prospect to keep tabs on when you consider the history of this organization and their developmental track with young prospects who play up and are able to impact.

Loud weekend for Walker as another Assault guard who helped boost his stock with his ability to score within the flow. His biggest outing came in the semifinal game against [program_tooltip program_id='2528398' first='TTO' last='Showcase'] where he went for 22 and teed off from deep with his quick, high release off the catch. In this specific matchup, Showcase was keeping it to a one possession game. That was until Walker canned back-to-back triples to create separation where they'd eventually win by six. He was at his best hunting open windows around the perimeter for kick-outs, but he also brought value on the defensive end as a disruptor in the passing lanes. He was diligent in transition in getting out in the lanes wide and quickly for guys like Palmer or Camp to find him with advance passes where he finished consistently even when he was contested at the rim.
