Expert Analysis
Riley Highfill | Prep Hoops Scout
Desire is a natural scorer who knows how to get to his spots. He’s quick, physical, and plays with confidence when the ball is in his hands. Whether it’s creating off the bounce or knocking down shots from deep, he’s capable of putting points up in bunches. He also competes defensively and makes sound decisions as a playmaker. Desire’s blend of scoring ability and toughness gives him legitimate next-level potential.

Like the way Desire controls the pace of the game and is a sound guard. He frequently touches the paint on the attack and has no issues getting downhill. He showed some flashes from three as a capable shooter. Desire is at his best when the game is in the half-court. He found ways to collect steals and turn it into offense. I like the way he uses his teammates to set screens for him and finds ways to reward them by finding them rolling to the rim.

Desire and Bates make up an interesting backcourt for District BC as two guys who can put point on the board in a hurry. They also both have the ability to break down their man and force defensive rotations to open others up. Desire couldn’t get his jumper falling on Sunday, but has typically been a guy that will knock down open triples with time and that should be a common theme with Bates’ and others establishing paint touches. While the shot wasn’t falling, Desire did a nice job of adjusting and penetrating gaps with a quick first step. He’ll look to translate his winning ways with Georgetown Prep this winter over to the grassroots circuit and help District maintain their presence within the Hoop Group scene.

16p 3r 1a vs Bullis
-Desire hit some HUGE shots throughout the game to give G Prep the series sweep of the defending IAC champs. Desire came into the game and hit a huge contested wing 3 to break up a Bulldogs run and start a personal trend, hitting 4 of his first 5 shots to go along with 2 made FTs. I loved the way that he got into gaps in the defense to make plays for teammates, collecting several hockey assists as the ball moved around the horn to find the right look. His back to back 3s gave Georgetown Prep the lead heading into the fourth and final frame, where he continued to make plays for the Hoyas and hit two more free throws to close out the game.

-Absolutely loved the way that Desire impacted the game off the bench for the Little Hoyas as a ball-hawking POA defender. Desire absolutely hounded St. Albans, performing well in his 2nd quarter minutes to come up with 3 steals to give his team an offensive spark in transition. Desire scored off the blow-by that started behind the 3 point line on the wing to hit a lefty lay at the rim, knocked down a pull up 2 in transition, threw a great 1-handed jump pass over the top to a rolling big, and came up with a big defensive rebound and made FTs to put the win away for his team.

Desire is an all-around floor general who does a nice job stuffing the stat sheet with his play. He is a threat to convert shots from deep when playing off the basketball. He is in good spots on the floor to collect rebounds. Desire’s pesky defense allows him to collect steals.

15p 5a 2s vs Holy Cross
-It was the tale of two halves, love the fight that Desire played with to help spark a G Prep comeback in an eventual win over a scrappy Holy Cross team. Desire hit a floater off the window to get it started, did a great job of pivoting around defenders to feed his center on the low block, had B2B dimes to cutters, then he REALLY turned it up. Desire peeled around his matchup to jump a passing lane to take it 94 feet and finish with a running hook layup around the defenders, hit an acrobatic falling layup with the left through contact, caught a pass in a tight window in the dunker’s spot to lay it up, then closed out the game with two dagger threes from the corner. Loved his response coming out of a timeout right before that run to ratchet up the ball pressure to allow his defense to ignite his offense.

Jarrard always does well coming into the game and keeping the ball moving. The offense is never slow or dead while Jarrard is on the ball. Even if he is not racking up assist numbers, Jarrard makes good passes and cuts to keep the offense in motion and eventually get the look they want. He pushes the ball well in transition and never holds the ball too long. I like the way Jarrard uses his quick first step to blow by the defender and draw help over from shooters or the big man down below. Great pick-and-pop game too with all his bigs whether on the summer circuit or with Georgetown. Usually ends each game with around 4 or 5 assists no matter the amount of play time.

7p 3r 2a 1s vs Penn Charter
-The top-40 sophomore guard is starting to string together consistent performances off the bench for the Hoyas, comfortably staying within the flow of the game to keep the offense humming when the starters rest. Desire can play both on or off the ball as a shifty downhill driver that can create his own shot, create for others, or function efficiently as an off-ball guard that moves the rock and can hit open shots. Desire hit a 1-dribble middie attacking in from the wing, scored on a layup after a timely backdoor cut from the corner (+FT), threw a beautiful alley lob from the logo to his big in transition, got two in the paint and delivered a great drop off to the big on the block, and hit a floater off glass late in the game after breaking the press. As he continues to score and distribute efficiently, his on-ball defensive efforts should earn him more PT as he harnesses his quickness and positioning IQ to bother ballhandlers in the halfcourt.

-Really like the all-around skillset that Desire brings as an aggressive PG that is comfortable making reads with the ball in his hands but can also attack closeouts/knock down shots on the wing. Love that he is always looking to push the pace in transition and does a good job of rewarding his bigs with lobs or pocket passes to give them an easy finishing opportunity around the basket. Desire will fight to earn a role in a pretty stacked Georgetown Prep rotation by being a disruptive POA defender that uses his quickness, footwork, and timing to bother ballhandlers and disrupt offensive flow.
