-One of our staff’s favorite small college prospects in the area, Camps makes good decisions as a pure point guard prospect that is constantly looking to create high percentage looks for his team. Camps uses a series of jab steps and spin moves to reject screens or send his opponents one direction so that he can drive in the opposite path. His ability to stop n pop for jumpshots from the midrange forces opponents to play up, which he often uses against them to duck under closeouts after hitting his matchup with a pump fake. Excited to see how he uses this summer to prepare for his senior season with a WC team that graduates some key pieces.

-One of my favorite point guards in the area, Camps does an excellent job of ordering his team. He plays with pace, executes straight line drives or Steve Nash baseline tight rope drives with the set purpose of shifting the defense to free up a teammate for an easy bucket. He plays under control, is a consistent shooter from all 3 levels, and applies pesky ball pressure at the POA.

-One of my top performers, Camps produced at a high level in all 3 sections of play throughout the event. Camps is a steady floor general that doesn’t turn the ball over, makes quick reads in traffic both in transition and in the halfcourt, and is capable of knocking down open jumpers from all 3 levels. Love the way that he protects the rock while waiting for on or off-ball screens to develop and understands the importance of the timing on his passe– especially in the PnR. Camps also showed that he is willing to lay his body on the line–even in a showcase– by drawing several charges or switching onto bigs and timing his stunts to swipe away steals before the big can get into a shooting motion. Should be one of the most impactful PGs in Moco this season.

-Camps is such a throwback, just an extremely fundamental pure point guard. Camps isn’t afraid to take a Steve Nash baseline drive to get his teammates to move off the ball and execute a pass while their defender has their head turned following the ball. Camps has the ball on a string and usually knows what options he has off the ball in the PnR as a high-level passer that does a great job of looking opposite to shift the defense. Camps excels as a fast point guard that effectively races the ball in transition and makes the decision of what he’s going to do with the ball before he crosses the 3 point line to effectively suck in the help defense.

-Camps really controls the flow of the game and sets the pace well for a WC team that needs his play-making to be successful. Camps uses a tight handle to constantly probe the defense with Nash drives along the baseline to force help defenders to turn their head just enough to pass a teammate open for a clean look. Liked his tenacity to go right at his man even if he had missed a shot or turned the ball over on the previous possession, showing a mental toughness to move onto the next play and always give his team a chance to score in the halfcourt. Expect him to be one of the more consistent PGs in Montgomery County this season.
