17p 4r 3a vs Bullis
-McDonough got it going late to bring his team back at home to within striking distance. His first 3 was off the bounce after rejecting a screen to pull up from the left wing. He then rattling off 3 straight makes off the catch before scoring on a baseline drive through the contact, converting on the old-fashioned 3-point play with a made FT. Loved the IQ to time a baseline backdoor cut to mirror his teammate’s slice to the basket from the opposite slot to open up an easy catch and finish opportunity.

-McDonough is picking his spots to probe the defense to serve as more of a threat as a creator but his biggest role on this G Prep roster is to knock down perimeter shots. And that is something that he does at a high level. McDonough relocates to space really well–especially in transition– and times his lifts from corners or cuts off of screens well to create space to knock down 3 point looks. His maturity and the development of the offensive feel has come a long way– passing up looks that don’t have ten toes facing the rim to move the ball in the hopes that it finds its way back to the Army commit.

25p 12a District vs VA Havoc
McDonough was really shredding an athletic backcourt to get anywhere he wanted for the whole game. A quick guard that gets lower than his matchup and attacks with a sharp change of angles, McDonough is also physical and not afraid to bump his matchup to create space to get off a shot. A 3-level shooter that is consistently hitting perimeter shots off the bounce and off of sidesteps, he is definitely a top-10 shooter in the DMV. His development on the ball and his passing ability on the move will lead to an uptick in the upcoming 2025 rankings.

-One of the most under-appreciated prospects in the area, I think McDonough could out-shoot several more highly-touted prospects in the area and proved that in an IAC semifinal win over SSSA. A dynamic C+S threat that forces long closeouts from the defense, McDonough has tightened his handle to allow him to hit more shots off the dribble with range. A strong, tenacious driver on the ball, McDonough uses his center of gravity to get past his matchup and into the teeth of the defense
