With the May live period coming up this weekend, it's going to be a critical time for remaining 2024's to find a college opportunity, 2025's to make their first impression of the spring on college coaches, and 2026s to make a splash before the open contact period begins in June. Check out a few of the programs we're most interested in checking out this weekend for #PhenomHoops' live period event.

Coach Dree Phillips has an impressive group of Eastern NC kids to put on the big stage this weekend, and none may be more talented than [player_tooltip player_id='1707110' first='MJ' last='Williams']. A lefty combo guard who can really shoot it, with parking lot range to boot. [player_tooltip player_id='1220128' first='Isaiah' last='Godley'] is a physical 2 guard/wing from South Central HS who can get to the basket and put his shoulder through people in order to get easy buckets in the paint. [player_tooltip player_id='2043203' first='ZyMiere' last='Dempsey'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2311776' first='Brandon' last='Carter'] are two standouts from the deep eastern part of the state, both guards with good size, the ability to pick up 94 feet, and handle the ball with confidence and consistency. Some other interesting names include 6'7 2025 [player_tooltip player_id='1226597' first='EJ' last='Sutton'], and 5'9 2025 [player_tooltip player_id='2362603' first='Justin' last='Grimes'], some names I've heard good things about but have not seen play much. That will change this weekend, as I'll be locked in on whether this team can take on some tough competition.

[program_tooltip program_id='2078512' first='NC' last='Spartans'] Henderson

Coach Henderson's group had some untimely injuries early this spring, but it sounds like they're going to be close to full strength come this weekend. [player_tooltip player_id='2448909' first='Derek' last='Studer'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2235104' first='Kam' last='Mcknight'] are two that may be back this weekend, and Studer's rebounding prowess as well as McKnight's perimeter marksmanship would be a big time addition. [player_tooltip player_id='2319820' first='Bryson' last='Mickey'] has been the leader of the show for the Henderson group as the floor general who just does everything you want in a winning player. His frame belies a ton of IQ, grit, and skill as a passer and a scorer. [player_tooltip player_id='1832580' first='Nathan' last='Keegan'] has put together some electric scoring performances as well for this group, as he'll be a big time contributor next season at Calvary Day with his blend of size on the wing and perimeter shooting. With a tough group of opponents this weekend, Coach Henderson's group will be on high alert all tournament long as they look to prove their status as a top independent group in the area.

[program_tooltip program_id='2078473' first='CC' last='Elite'] 2025

With [program_tooltip program_id='2078473' first='CC' last='Elite'], there's a nice group of Charlotte-metro talent to always check in on, and this group is no different. Concord Academy has put [player_tooltip player_id='2441149' first='Alek' last='Kornacki'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1297327' first='Jake' last='Benham'] on the team, with both being legitimate college prospects for coaches to target. Kornacki is a nice post presence with good hands/touch and has gotten better and better since his arrival in North Carolina, while Benham continues to do what he does best, which is spray the ball from downtown all day long. [player_tooltip player_id='1462966' first='Miles' last='Leaks'] is also a proven defender and ball-handler who can initiate offense, leading his team with poise. [player_tooltip player_id='1292671' first='Landon' last='Haggarty'] is a 2026 playing up with this group, holding his own and showing he has the maturity and composure to compete at high levels and play within himself as well. Always a skilled and fun group to watch, and this team will be no different as they look to make some noise.

NLPB 2025

I think this is a team with the most underrated talent in the higher level pools this weekend, and I expect this group to blow people away with their skill, toughness, and overall size as well. Guys like [player_tooltip player_id='2093824' first='Zach' last='Peterson'], [player_tooltip player_id='1225449' first='Grant' last='Clayton'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2093826' first='Rylan' last='Parkins'] all have the ability to man the interior at 6'7+, as well as good touch and feel in the paint. All of them also possess solid athletic tools that allow them to compete at different areas on the floor, while not necessarily blowing you away with raw athleticism. In the guard spots, [player_tooltip player_id='1774476' first='Jordan' last='Patterson'], [player_tooltip player_id='1990406' first='Dacen' last='Petty'], [player_tooltip player_id='2091779' first='Josiah' last='Railey'], and [player_tooltip player_id='2306038' first='Ian' last='Howard'] are all difference makers that can score the ball at their own pace. I think Railey and Howard make plays for others very well, while Patterson brings an all-around, physical scoring game to the table. When it comes to Petty, he's quick, explosive, and able to push the ball in transition or attack open space in the halfcourt. All these guys should be fired up to compete this weekend in a pool that should provide good competition.
