Couldn’t be more excited for all of the prospects who made a statement throughout the state. At times, it had us on the edge of our seats and then always had us clapping at the competition.
You the fan deserve input to the season, and we decided to give it to you in the form of a fan poll.
Impactful Freshman:
For this selection you the fan got to choose from some really impressive newcomers like Jack Kohnen Jack Kohnen 6'5" | SF Slinger | 2027 State WI out of Slinger, who has proven to have very solid upside. Or Dooney Johnson Dooney Johnson 6'5" | SG Milwaukee Juneau | 2027 State WI , the prospect who is taking the state by storm & already possesses college offers. How about Jalen Brown Jalen Brown 6'5" | SF Wauwatosa West | 2027 State WI , out of Tosa West, who is averaging double-digits points and then gets to throw assists to a 6’10” phenom.
The fan’s choice for the most impactful freshman this season was Donovan Davis Donovan Davis 6'7" | PF Freedom | 2027 State WI | 6’6″ | W | Freedom HS | Team Herro. The post wing had an impressive year: He started all 24 games of the season and then finished with a stat line of 17ppg, 9.8 reb, 4.5apg. This is impressive for a freshman, on varsity to average a double-double (at the time of the voting) and to then display his passing skills and issue out 4.5apg.
Stand Out Sophomore:
The fans had choices going into the voting with the likes of top prospects of Lamont Hamilton Lamont Hamilton 5'10" | PG Racine St. Catherine's | 2026 State WI , Vaughn Karvala Vaughn Karvala 6'5" | SF Oregon | 2026 State WI , and Amare Hereford Amare Hereford 6'1" | PG Beloit Memorial | 2026 State WI , all having very good years. But with tight voting, it came down to just two prospects in Josh Manchester Josh Manchester 6'4" | PG Mount Horeb | 2026 State WI out of Mt Horeb and Andrew Jensen Andrew Jensen 6'9" | C Kaukauna | 2026 State WI of Kaukauna.

At the time of the voting, he was averaging a double-double. Proved that he could be impactful in the line-up next to senior big Jon O’Neil. Furthermore, during the season there were high major colleges that took notice of his impactful play and potential, Marquette, Illinois, West Virginia, and UW-Milwaukee have all offered the wing along with Bryant University. Then he has stated interest or visits from Nebraska, Bradley, and Wisconsin.
Junior Player of the Year:
This voting surprised me, not taking anything away from the top vote-getter, but the choices here were some dominant players, names that we all know. to choose from the fans had Gavin Gores Gavin Gores 6'10" | PF Cumberland | 2025 State WI , who if you are paying attention has come onto the scene very strong this season. How about Kai Rogers Kai Rogers 6'10" | C Wauwatosa West | 2025 State #41 Nation WI out of Tosa West, who is averaging 20+ppg and 14+rebounds per game. He also had a triple-double with blocks being the third category. Zay Mitchell, from Oshkosh North, who is always impressive and now has added a new wrinkle to his game. Then there is Chris Davis Jr, out of Sun Prairie West HS, who is leading the state in scoring at an incredible 40+ppg. He has burst onto the scene like no other by growing a couple of inches and developed his athleticism.
The Junior Player of the Year: (As voted by you the fan) Drew Daoust Drew Daoust 6'2" | PG Southern Door | 2025 State WI | 6’1″ | G | Southern Door HS | Wisconsin Crusaders . This player just had himself a year: 34.2ppg, 5.3 rebounds per contest, 4.4apg. On top of that, he went over 2000 career points, his team won the conference title, and he received his first college offer: Newman University.
Senior Player of the Year:
Even though there are some really tough and gifted players in the 2024 class, the voting for the senior player of the year was overwhelmingly Kon Knueppel. Seems fitting since he has been the number one ranking prospect in the class from almost the start and through to his last game. The Wisconsin Lutheran player has had a very good year and an even more stellar career. He became Wisco’s all-time leading scorer, rebounder, and assist leader. His team is undefeated and could be the likely favorites to win a state title. The Duke commit has left an imprint on Wisconsin prep basketball.
Coach of the Year
As voted by the fans the 2023/24 coach of the year is Wisconsin Lutheran’s Ryan Walz. His team is undefeated at 24-0, conference champs, poised to make a run towards a state championship, and by ranked by some outlets as a top 30 high school team in the country. Quite impressive!
Charge Circle
81.32% of the fans who voted, said yes.
Shot Clock
This was a complete runaway by the fans and should be just another data point for the state and WIAA to make the change like 29 other states already has.
