Continue ReadingWe expect to launch our inaugural 2027 rankings on Monday. With 70 players already on our list, we’re off to a good start but it’s so early that there are definitely dozens of quality players who will miss the list because we haven’t seen or heard about them yet. Keep in mind, it’s only a starting point for this class and will grow and develop over the next 4 years. Here’s a look at some storylines going into the rankings release on Monday.
The Race for #1:
There are several prospects who can make a case to be ranked as the top prospect when rankings hit on Monday. Jack Logsdon Jack Logsdon 6'5" | SF Grayson County | 2027 State KY , Tyce Jarvis Tyce Jarvis 6'5" | SG Montgomery County | 2027 State KY , Montez Gay Montez Gay 6'5" | SF George Rogers Clark | 2027 State KY , LJ Holman LJ Holman 6'1" | CG Great Crossing | 2027 State KY , Caleb Rimmer Caleb Rimmer 6'4" | PF Russell | 2027 State KY and others could all make a rightful claim to the top spot to start these rankings.
The Impact of Transfers (Already):
With Obinna Ekezie already on his way out of Kentucky and headed to Prolific Prep in California, a top 3 prospect is already out of the Commonwealth and off these rankings. We’re also waiting to see if big man Precious Sam will actually enroll at Ballard after playing summer ball with the Bruins. Sam has multiple D1 offers already and would be a top prospect if he does indeed end up at Ballard (or anywhere else in Kentucky).
Talented Group of Mountain Prospects:
There was a strong Mountain presence at our Freshman Showcase last weekend and there looks to be some serious depth in the area in this class. Braxton Keathley Braxton Keathley 6'3" | CG Prestonsburg | 2027 State KY , Brock Woods Brock Woods 6'7" | C Paintsville | 2027 State KY , Trent Cole Trent Cole 5'10" | PG Harlan Independent | 2027 State KY , Brody Little Brody Little 6'1" | CG Pikeville | 2027 State KY , Austin Slone Austin Slone 6'2" | SG Johnson Central | 2027 State KY and Hayden Perry Hayden Perry 6'2" | SG Lawrence County | 2027 State KY are just a few kids from the mountains who will be in the rankings on Monday.
Quality Size:
There is some legitimate size in this class already, which is rare for Kentucky. Maddox Hager Maddox Hager 6'6" | PF Boyle County | 2027 KY , Brock Woods Brock Woods 6'7" | C Paintsville | 2027 State KY , Wyatt Rickard Wyatt Rickard 6'8" | C Carlisle County | 2027 State KY , Landon Henning Landon Henning 6'9" | C Apollo | 2027 State KY , Ferlandas Wright Ferlandas Wright 6'6" | PF WEB DuBois | 2027 State KY and Luke Armstrong Luke Armstrong 6'6" | C Calloway County | 2027 State KY are all 6’5+ already with potential to keep growing. It usually takes a while for Kentucky to develop some solid bigs but this class has a little bit of a head start.
