One of the first things that jumped out to me about Ridge View’s Open Practice was the amount of on-ball responsibility Wylie had. That has been a major development this summer, and based on what I saw on Monday, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him be the guy bringing the ball up in big spots this season. DJ excelled running the pick-and-roll, showing flashes with strong takes to the rim and pull-up threes when defenses didn’t show the right coverage. This shift in Wylie’s game raises his and Ridge View’s ceiling and is something that will have college coaches monitoring closely.

I got my first in-person look at DJ with Team CP3 earlier this week, and he stepped up down the stretch with a handful of massive possessions and the game-winning layup inside the final 30 seconds. Heading into the weekend, Wylie’s notable offers included Wofford, Queens, Harvard, and Coastal Carolina, among a few others.

I had him tallied with 8 steals, but it was also a high-volume playmaking game for DJ and the most I’ve seen him on-ball for the Blazers. Wylie’s strong frame, good size at 6’4″, and basketball IQ are all key attributes to his game. DJ earned two more Division One offers from Presbyterian and Coastal Carolina after a good weekend in Georgia.

When I think of winning, Ridge View will always be one of the first South Carolina High Schools I think of. Wylie has been a major piece to their puzzle over the last few seasons, and he was bright again on Wednesday. His strong frame allowed him to impact winning against Nation Ford, as he locked down the defense end, got downhill in the half-court, and was a playmaker in transition. DJ tallied 14 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals in the game.

It was truly a tale of two days for Wylie on Thursday and Friday. Other than a few highlight plays on the defensive end, he struggled before eventually fouling out in game one. However, he clearly put it in the rearview mirror and erupted for a 24-point performance in game two. It was a remarkably efficient game for DJ, connecting on 9-12 FG and 4-5 3FG. That type of shooting on a consistent basis would be the icing on the cake for Wylie as a prospect, because he is a special athlete who makes plays above the rim on both ends of the floor.

He knocked down a left-corner three on the opening possession, then picked up the intensity on the defensive end right away. He was aggressive at the point of attack throughout the night, making life difficult for opposing ball handlers with his size and relentlessness. DJ also had a few athletic finishes at the rim in transition and finished with 11 points and 3 steals.
