King Kendrick
About King
Expert Analysis
Charles Yates | Prep Hoops Scout
King Kendrick is a dual threat playmaker/scorer for Team CP3, and this is demonstrated by his versatility on the court. He can shoot from distance and finish at the basket with either hand and he has very underrated athleticism especially when attacking the paint. He creates turnovers with unparalleled lateral quickness, and his hand-eye coordination allows him to play passing lanes with pinpoint ability. His IQ at the point guard slot is a problem for defenses due to his dime-throwing ability and quick reflexes when isolating defenders either on the perimeter or in the paint. King currently has offers from Arizona State, Texas A&M, Ohio, Dayton, and Kent State.

Kendrick continues to give this Team CP3 17u group a dynamic pace to their game as he possesses some of the best end to end speed you’ll find in high school basketball. This team made it into the final bracket before losing a close one to the Florida Rebels but Kendrick was able to have a real impact with his production. He averaged 14.8 Points, 3.2 Rebounds, 6.7 Assists, and 2.2 Steals per game. Kendrick did all of that while shooting below his normal % from two by a pretty sizable chunk. For Kendrick to still have this impact as a playmaker and find a way to produce on the scoresheet the way that he did was very impressive. His move to Combine Academy should attract other talent to join him as his unselfish approach shined super bright this July.

Kendrick played one of his most complete games I’ve seen from him as the ambidextrous point guard made some key plays offensively to push his team to a victory. Kendrick knocked down a couple pull-up jumpers but also threw down two dunks that were some of the most athletic plays I’ve ever seen him make. The improvement to Kendrick’s explosiveness has helped take his game to the next level as the Ohio native has seen his recruitment spike over the last two months. More than just a scorer, Kendrick finished the game with seven assists and six steals, two aspects that usually lead to wins from the point guard position.

Kendrick is a favorite of mine as I got to know him at Nike Elite 100 last year. Elite leader and off the charts character. Kind of kid you can see running a business as a CEO or President! Plays with that mentality as he has a high basketball IQ reading the game one play ahead making sound decisions with the ball as a true floor general. Unique part of his game is he is ambidextrous being able to shoot at an above average clip with either hand. Pull ups with either hand and floaters with either hand. Such an instinctual feel for the game. His athleticism has taken a notch up as well. More pop than we saw last summer throwing down big dunks and it is also shown on the defensive end with his quickness creating turnovers. He had 22 points (7-14 FG) (7-10 FT), 7 assists, and 6 steals in the victory.

Kendrick continues to prove himself as a high level PG that plays with great pace with a unique attribute to his game as an ambidextrous jump shooter which garners him a lot of publicity. In four games at the camp, In four games where he team went 4-0, Kendrick averaged 11.3 Points, 4.8 Rebounds, 2.5 Assists, and 0.5 Steals per game on 49/18/100 shooting splits. He finished with a “+” next to his name in every contest as well. Kendrick’s ability to balance his scoring and playmaking was on full display with his pace in the open floor. His jumper from beyond the arc didn’t fall like he wanted it too but that didn’t deter him from getting his game off in every other way. It was a productive week for Kendrick and he should be able to carry this momentum into July with Team CP3 EYBL.

EYBL 17u group as he helped guide them to a 7-1 record in EYBL play in the month of May. Over the last two sessions, Kendrick averaged 10.3 Points, 4.0 Rebounds, 4.9 Assists, 0.8 Steals, and 0.6 Blocks per game on 37/29/74 shooting splits. For Kendrick, these efficiency numbers could use some improvement but that doesn’t tell the whole story. Kendrick can completely control the flow of a game with his ability to change speeds, score from multiple levels, and turn defense into offense with the blink of an eye. Kendrick is truly elite in transition and his speed is ultimately his signature skill. Look for Kendrick to continue to guide CP3 on a magical season as they have a Peach Jam or bust mindset with the talented roster they’ve assembled.

Another valuable backcourt piece in the Team CP3 17u EYBL Backcourt, Kendrick has dynamic end to end speed and an incredible feel for the game as he helped guide this team to a 2-1 record for the session. Kendrick averaged 21.0 Points, 2.0 Rebounds, 6.3 Assists, and 2.3 Steals per game on 38/33/95 shooting splits. Kendrick showed improvement on his perimeter shooting as he connected at a respectable percentage at a high volume over the course of the three games this past weekend. Kendrick’s ability to manufacture offense for himself and others in transition with his speed is a special one that he possesses. He’s a truly ambidextrous player down to the jump shot and that allows him to finish with either hand on either side of the rim. Look for Kendrick to continue asserting himself as a national level PG this spring/summer.

The Ohio native has settled in well with Team CP3 and is in his second season running the show for the program. Kendrick is super active and just finds himself consistently around the action on the court. Kendrick had multiple steals in the game I caught and averaged over two per game on the weekend. As a passer, Kendrick seems to not force the issue and can make both the simple and flashy pass to set up his teammates. Taking a major scoring load for his team, Kendrick was the one tasked with creating in late shot clock situations. Tough to find point guards who are more productive from a scoring, playmaking and defensive perspective than Kendrick is on the EYBL circuit this season.

Kendrick is one of the main pieces in what is the best offensive starting five in North Carolina at Caldwell Academy. This group has locked up the 2nd overall seed behind Greenfield with a 19-9 record on the season. Kendrick possesses elite end to end speed + the ability to change pace/direction whenever he wants. He understands pace better than most guards his age, making him a truly advanced PG. Kendrick throws timely, on target passes that most players simply aren’t capable of making, allowing his teammates to get great looks in the process. He and

have a great connection in the backcourt and feed off of one another’s success. Kendrick’s strength and athleticism have taken another leap throughout the course of this season. He’s getting above the rim with more consistency and is showing the ability to finish through contact at the rim better than he did previously. Kendrick is poised for a big playoff run at Caldwell + a special spring/summer travel ball season that should elevate his recruitment to a true national level.

Kendrick was a key part in Caldwell Academy’s win over Jordan High School despite the team being shorthanded with multiple guys out with illness. Kendrick’s ability to use his end to end speed + the ability to change speed and direction is what makes him truly special in my book. He’s a very very capable finisher around the basket with either hand, we know he can make jumpers with either hand and showed some real consistency in that aspect of his game on Saturday. Kendrick is one of the best guards in NC regardless of class, he can come off the ball when needed but does his best work running the show. He just plays the game with the kind of pace you see from guards at the Collegiate level.
