Harrell is the heart and soul of CATS. He had some foul trouble early on and therefore played fewer minutes than he normally would, but he certainly made them count. He hit threes and also bodied smaller defenders in the lane, but I was most impressed with his passing ability. He does such a good job passing out of the double team and also sees the right read before it’s happening. I’ll be so curious to see what Harrell’s role on Providence is next year and moving forward. Does he shoot tons of standstill threes? Does he get post touches against smaller guards? Time will tell.

Harrell was his usual self in Saturday’s matchup against KUA. He made tough shot after tough shot – many of which were contested three-pointers off the dribble – and also attacked the offensive glass for easy put backs. Some of his off-the-dribble shots were just ridiculous – step backs with long, tall defenders right in his face. There’s just something about his calmness and the way he never gets too high or too low while playing that his team feeds off of; he’s such a leader for this squad and makes big plays whenever they’re needed. It seems like in every big game CATS plays, Harrell shoots it very well from three. Coincidence?

Harrell’s the type of player who can score an unnoticed 20 points. Whether it be getting put-backs off of rebounds or sneaking behind the 2-3 zone on the baseline, he just finds a way to get the ball in scoring positions and finish it. He also has been known to get hot from three – he hit a few of those today against W&M’s zone. Even though his shot doesn’t have too much arc, I’ve seen enough at this point to say that it’s consistent and lethal. I was also really impressed with his ability to pass out of the free-throw line area. He has good vision and can see above the defense with his size.

Saturday was perhaps the best I’ve seen Harrell play this season. His shot was falling from the start from both the mid-range and three, and he’s incredibly difficult to stop when that’s the case. I’ve been increasingly impressed with Harrell’s patience and ability to get his shot off in almost any circumstance. Against smaller guards, he can post up and body them, but against larger players he can get to his pull-up game. He put up 35 today and had the CATS in a game they probably wouldn’t have been in without his massive scoring punch.

Harrell really struggled on Saturday against the defensive pressure of PSA, but he responded in a big way on Sunday. Once he gets a smaller guard on him, he almost always gets a post touch and is able to find a solid shot for himself or others. And on the perimeter, he has a quick shot release that he makes fairly consistently. I would love to see him expand his on-ball creation game and get a little bit quicker laterally on the defensive end, two things that’ll help him a lot at Providence next year.

Harrell has an old-school game; he’s controlled and plays at his own pace, and he likes to take his time in the mid-post, often getting to his mid range shot. On Friday, his three-point shot was also working, and he showcased a quicker release than I remember from the last time I saw him. The 6-foot-5 Providence commit is strong enough to guard larger players, but his foot speed on the perimeter could use some work as he’ll have to guard shorter, quicker guards at the next level. Will be curious to see how he changes his body moving forward.

Harrell ended his recruitment early with a commitment to Providence College. Not much more can be said about the Top 100 prospect, who’s decision to stay close to home has made plenty of local fans happy. Harrell is a dynamic scorer that can get it done at all three levels and is particularly effective when attacking the defensive with the ball in his hands. He has a terrific frame, dependable athleticism, and continues to add small elements to his game. He’s one of the better wing scorers in the class and should be able to continue that at the next level. Defensively, he has the competitiveness and toughness to guard up and down a position and continues to show signs up being a high level defender. Providence gets a terrific recruit in what is shaping up to be a top ranked class and Harrell has a chance to quickly develop into a fan favorite with his intangibles and commitment to winning..
