Higgins has special long-term potential. The 6-foot-10 forward is going to continue to grow offensively—he already shows flashes of really nice footwork and finishing ability, and the outside shot will continue to improve. But right now, the sophomore is already an elite defender. He’s a phenomenal rim-protector with his length and timing, he switches out onto guards and can stay with them on the perimeter, and he’s excellent in the passing lanes or while playing in the gap. There literally isn’t a thing he can’t do or a player he can’t guard on the defensive end, and it’s rare for a guy to be that polished on that end this early on in his career. I find it hard to believe Higgins won’t get minutes this season as a result of what he can do defensively, and the future is quite bright for him once he gains more offensive skill and confidence.

The ceiling is extremely high for Higgins, a skilled and tough forward who appears to be taking full advantage of the resources available to him at Newman. There will be stretches when the offense runs directly through the talented sophomore, allowing him to create an advantage off the dribble before scoring or finding an open teammate. Higgins has the size and skill to become one of the most impactful young forwards in New England.

Liked how mobile and fluid Higgins looked in the two games I saw of him at MADE Hoops. The emerging frontcourt prospect showed the versatility to impact the game both inside and out, stretching the floor with his perimeter skill set while still being effective around the basket. Higgins plays with an active motor and consistently finds ways to stay involved, whether it is rebounding, running the floor, or making hustle plays. His blend of mobility, size, and versatility gives him intriguing long-term upside, and it feels like he is only beginning to tap into his potential. With continued development, his best basketball is clearly ahead of him, and I am looking forward to seeing how his game progresses in the NEPSAC this season.

For a 6-foot-10 2029, Higgins plays about as hard as I’ve seen. Normally, kids his size/age haven’t found their motor yet and are still learning what it means to make multiple efforts, but not him. The Maine native looks ready to do whatever the Newman coaches ask of him, whether it be rebounding and defending bigs or crashing the offensive glass and cutting hard offensively. Higgins certainly has a bright future ahead with his skillset, feel, and athleticism, but it’s his motor and understanding of his role that makes me most excited. Kid is clearly a winner.

Higgins is going to turn LOTS of heads at Newman next season. With tons of meaningful players graduating this year, the 6-foot-9 forward from Brewer, ME, is primed to carve out a role as a versatile, two-way forward who can guard on the perimeter and in the paint and can play with or without the ball offensively. He can shoot it a bit from the outside (his touch on floaters in the paint is promising for the trajectory of his three-point shot), but he also does a really good job attacking closeouts and handling the ball in small spaces. He can pass, too, and has a knack for making simple, winning plays—he pesters the offensive glass relentlessly and is a smart cutter. I’m quite high on Higgins and can’t wait to see him compete at this level.

Higgins, a forward out of Brewer High School in Maine, is ranked #1 among the power forwards and checks in at #13 overall in this update. At 6’9″ with long arms, Higgins has terrific positional size, is a fluid athlete, and should only continue to add strength to his frame going forward. He’s at his best attacking the rim, either in transition or as a slasher, but also shows some ability to create with the ball in his hands. Defensively, he impresses with his versatility, understanding of how to use his length, and shot blocking instincts. Higgins will head to the Newman School in the fall and join the Class of 2029.

Higgins is another guy I’ve heard about from his dominance in Maine hoops, but he continues to put up performances that make him a name to know in New England. The 6-foot-9 wing/forward has great athleticism and super long arms, so he can impact shots at the hoop and finish dunks above the rim. But he also has a super cerebral offensive game and is very unselfish when it comes to driving and kicking to teammates. Admittedly, he has some rawness to his game right now—but once Higgins puts on some weight and strength, he could be a high level scholarship prospect. He’s about all of the right things and plays the right way already; Newman, where he’ll be next year, will be a great place for him to grow even more.

Higgins, a skilled forward out of Brewer High School in Maine, left his mark on the MPA this winter as a two-way standout. At 6’7″ with a lean build and long arms, he has a frame that he should grow into as he goes through high school, and, at the same time, plays with an impressive amount of physicality. He’s capable of attacking the rim off the bounce, has range out to the perimeter on his jumper, and uses his athleticism within the flow of the game as a scorer. Defensively, he’s a game changer around the rim that also shows some versatility, with the ability to guard on the perimeter in switches.
