Aasim Sullivan | Prep Hoops Scout
Allen is a quick, downhill guard who consistently puts pressure on the defense with his speed and attacking mentality. He can score in a variety of ways, finishing at the rim, pulling up in space, or knocking down shots from deep. On the defensive end, his activity and toughness allow him to disrupt opposing guards. His two-way impact makes him a difference-maker whenever he’s on the floor.

It’s incredible what Allen is able to do on a court given his lack of size. On a court full of division 1 prospects, the 6-foot-1 guard (and that might be generous) is able to rebound and defend super effectively. He has phenomenal timing, toughness, and instincts, so he goes after every rebound quite aggressively, and he gets a ton of them. He also guards his position quite well, and he is a total dog when it comes to sliding his feet and using his hands. He won’t wow you with pinpoint shooting or incredible offensive creation, but he moves the ball well and can do anything you need of him on the court. He’s a winner.

It doesn’t matter what the score of the game is or what time of day it is, TJ Allen is playing with toughness and aggression at all times. The 6-foot-2 combo guard is a total bulldog on both ends and operates like an NFL running back on the floor. He does an amazing job keeping his line on drives and is a relentless rim attacker, so he’s tough to go against for 32 minutes. Defensively, he competes like a madman and has really special hands and lateral quickness. He should get tons of minutes for Darrow this season and will be getting looks from a variety of scholarship coaches. A more consistent shot would improve his recruitment.

Allen is a speedy guard who plays with a relentless motor and attacking mindset. He’s a natural scorer, always looking to put pressure on the defense and create his own shot. His aggressive style makes him a constant threat in transition and in the half-court. Allen’s quickness and intensity set the tone for his team on both ends of the floor.

Allen is a do it all guard who can play on or off the basketball. He was a threat from deep converting several shots from behind the arc. Allen has no issues converting tough scoring attempts. He converted at the foul line. I like the confidence Allen plays with whenever he steps onto the floor. He should see a ton of coaches tracking him for the coming years.

He is quick, lean but a built athlete. Good vision trying to create best possible scenarios for his team with the ball. He can shoot from deep with a decent percentage. He has crazy hang time. A calm, under pressure player who moves so well without the ball especially back door cutting.

Allen is, quite frankly, a dog. An opposing coach mentioned to one of his players that Allen hadn’t scored yet (not true), and Allen proceeded to light them up for about 10 straight points immediately after. Once he gets a head of steam going to the hoop, he’s tough to get in front of and alter his path, because he’s incredibly sturdy and strong. He also has a solid pull-up game and can really defend. For his age, he’s got incredible physical tools at the guard position. Definite scholarship-level prospect.

is a combo guard scorer with a sick handle and fluidity. Quick with the ball in his hands, he can get by defenders in a hurry. Allen can also find creative ways to put the ball in the hoop when finishing through contact at the rim. He is an effective off-ball shooter at this point, especially in the corners. With further development and work, off-the-dribble shooting from three should be in Allen’s future. In the fast break, he is fast and gets moving with an upbeat tempo. Allen also has skills defending on the ball, always moving his feet and anticipating drives. He has a lot of talent already and with additional refinement over the next couple of years, he should continue to make his name known to programs soon enough.
