Douglas was on a college visit during last week’s open gym, but I got a chance to watch him this past AAU season and really like his game. Though he won’t wow you with athleticism or quickness, the 6-foot-4 guard has great positional size and is an extremely smart as a decision-maker. He makes shots from three with great consistency, but he also knows how to read defenders at the rim and is a really solid passer. Defensively, his strength allows him to guard up and he’s a great team defender. Douglas should be able to make an impact on one of the two teams this season and will get high level D3 recruitment.

Douglas can really score the basketball. The 6-foot-4 guard won’t jump off the page with incredible burst, but he beats you with his pace, size, and skill. He has a keen understanding of space and how to use his body, so he’s effective as a driver and understands when to attack an opening vs. when to shoot the open shot. His ability to make shots off of movement is impressive, too—he’s excellent at backpedaling into threes and knows when to slip or hold the screen and then can get good looks off no matter what he does. Because of his size, he can also take advantage of smaller players in the paint, which he does on the offensive glass and as a cutter. Douglas was awesome for NJ Shoreshots during live period and should be a nice piece for Newman, where he’ll fit beautifully into their system because of his IQ and shooting ability.

Douglass leaves his mark on the game with his perimeter shot-making. He can score off the catch or off the dribble. Douglass is at his best in the half-court. I would like to see him work on getting a step or two faster. He is a bit of a tweener.
