Maloney didn’t have his best day on Tuesday, but the potential is through the roof. When I first saw him a year ago, he was skinnier, a little less athletic, and not the most consistent shooter. He has gotten a lot bigger/stronger and more athletic, and he has also improved his shot release and consistency from three. Now, the 6-foot-6 wing is a really intriguing player who can do a lot of different things on the court. Once he gets a little more comfortable handling the ball, the junior will have scholarship schools interested in him. Keep an eye on Maloney, who should improve a lot with Newman this season.

Maloney comes into New England with a big reputation and the ability to impact a game in a variety of ways. The Newman School wing can really shoot it and also does a nice job of attacking the offensive glass. He’s really come along though as someone who can handle the ball against pressure and make decisions in the half-court. He does a nice job of attacking the paint off the bounce and is particularly adept at playing off of his pivot foot. He uses his size to see over the defense and has the ability to make some impressive passes out of ball screens. The junior holds offers from Albany, Drexel, Le Moyne, Penn State, Siena, and Yale.

Maloney is a powerful wing who thrives thundering his way downhill to get paint touches. He has great touch around the basket and is a bunch scorer who can pile up points with ease. He is effective running the floor in transition. He is very explosive and is seconds away from making a highlight play above the rim. He is tracking as mid to high major prospect with continued developments.

Maloney, a versatile big guard out of the Newman School, checks into the rankings at #34, after previously appearing on the Watch List. Maloney, a 6’7″ wing, has been a major stock riser this spring while realing in recent offers from Ivies and High Majors alike. A big wing, he’s a fluid mover in space and graceful finisher around the rim. Everything about his game is smooth, including his ability to handle the ball in the half-court. He doesn’t get sped up, shows good instincts as an off-ball cutter, and has the ability to finish above the rim with plus athletic pop. Defensively, his combination of size, length, and lateral mobility allows him to guard ones through fours, making plays in passing lanes and rebounding both in traffic and in space.
