About Leon
Expert Analysis
Robbie Hodin | Prep Hoops Scout
Powe III is the son of a former NBA player, and you can tell. He knows what he’s good at on the floor and finds ways to accentuate those skills while hiding the things he’s still working on. The 6-foot-5 wing can handle the ball and play as a point-guard, but he can also cut off the ball and excels as an athlete in transition. He uses slow steps and eurosteps quite well at the hoop, and he plays at his own pace while never being sped up. Powe III will look to make an impact right away for a Newman School squad that is rebuilding after a NEPSAC Class AAA and National Prep Championship last season, now under the leadership of new head coach Justin Perron.

Leon Powe | 6’5 G | Salesian | 2026
One of the smoothest wings in the gym, Powe continues to showcase his all-around versatility. At 6’5 with length and feel, he impacts every possession — rebounding in traffic, switching onto multiple positions defensively, and knocking down shots with confidence. He’s especially dangerous in transition, turning defense into instant offense. Powe doesn’t need to dominate the ball to contribute to his team winning.

He had a good tournament, we’ll call him the X Factor. What did he do. He defended using his length, and toughness in the post area, his foot speed, mobility, and length to defend shooters on the perimeter. He’s stronger than he looks going up for points in the paint. He got rebounds, led the break, making long strong passes up court. He can take you off the dribble, and hit the 3-point shot.

Powe makes his way into the top 50 after sharpening his skill set with Arsenal 16 throughout the Spring and Summer. He’s a long guard/forward/wing with range and confidence to knock down open 3’s. He has the handles and moves to get his own shots, using hard, sometimes quick dribbles for mid-range, and paint jumpers. He’s thin, but tough taking it into the paint unafraid of contact. He’s a hard defender with length to cover ground. (97 to 40)
