2027 Prospect Update: MD/DC Top 20 Small Forwards

As the fall approaches, we kick off another series here at Prep Hoops MD/DC where we'll spotlight the top-20 prospect at each position. We'll go through various classes in this manner and now that we've covered the point guards, we move to the combo guards belonging to the rising senior class. [player_tooltip player_id='2370950' first='Larry' last='Duncan'] of Springdale Prep/[program_tooltip program_id='2450576' first='Team' last='Museum']    Duncan has always been a prospect that I've advocated for thanks to his positional versatility and his competitive motor, but since January he's seemed to flip a switch and proved himself skillset wise as well to become a true, toolsy forward who can leave his impact on both ends. A high-level athlete in the open floor who can finish the job on lobs, Duncan is always an above the rim threat with a clear path for takeoff. He's always hunting offensive putbacks whether it be in transition or a half court setting. He proved himself as a viable threat on catch-and-shoots from three this spring and summer with [program_tooltip program_id='2450576' first='Team' last='Museum']. As he adds in some spurts of playmaking off the bounce to go with his sturdy defensive ability, college programs will continue to jump in on the sweepstakes. Tuskegee and Caldwell are the latest programs to extend scholarship offers to the Springdale Prep product.    5. [player_tooltip player_id='2446429' first='Joshua' last='Jones'] of New Town/[program_tooltip program_id='2077004' first='Team' last='Takeover'] Showcase   6. [player_tooltip player_id='2455425' first='Carlos' last='Ferguson'] of McDonogh *Minnesota football commit   7. [player_tooltip player_id='2935812' first='Noah' last='Cowan'] of City/[program_tooltip program_id='2458562' first='HC' last='United']    It'll be an interesting season in Baltimore City as the last few weeks have helped boost some rosters to contend with the Knights this season. Cowan will be a centerpiece for head coach Omarr Smith and while he earned his stripes early on in his high school career as more of a junkyard dog, he's added the perimeter skillset to make him a truly versatile prospect who will cause problems as a senior. He has developed touch with his jumper to space out to the corners where he can convert three's with space, is really effective from the high-post where he can turn and act as a scorer or passer and always supplies the energy on the defensive side of the floor from the point of attack or crashing the glass.    8. [player_tooltip player_id='3675419' first='Jonathan' last='Farley'] of DeMatha/Virginia Elite    One of the wings in the DMV flying under the radar is Farley and simply put, he may be one of the best athletes at his position in the area. He's a high-flyer with size and plus length, giving him a strong foundation to help build on in the coming years. He's still more potential than production at this point, but this spring and summer he showed real pop with Virginia Elite as a wing who could be a valuable piece to the rotation for Division III programs. It wouldn't surprise me to see him move up a level as he continues to develop his body and skill in college.    14. [player_tooltip player_id='2888900' first='Kuek' last='Kuek'] of Clinton Grace   16. [player_tooltip player_id='2954432' first='Michael' last='Brown'] of New Town   17. [player_tooltip player_id='2881669' first='Jonah' last='Matz'] of Pikesville/[program_tooltip program_id='2077005' first='Team' last='Thrill'] MHC    Matz is set to be one of the better prospects in the Baltimore County Public School landscape and after a productive junior campaign paired with a nice spring/summer with [program_tooltip program_id='2077005' first='Team' last='Thrill'] MHC, he should be set to make a run as a potential POY candidate. He prides himself with his shot making, but he's improved steadily as an athlete who can finish above the rim on straight-line drives. It's also helped him be more of a presence as a weak side defender who can rotate and alter shots at the bucket. He brings a high IQ to both ends, but is very effective from the top of the key or high-post where he can operate off 2-to-3 dribbles and deliver passes on target to cutting teammates or ones spotting up in the corners.    18. [player_tooltip player_id='3532628' first='Nana' last='Yeboah'] of Archbishop Carroll    Yeboah has a chance of making an impact at Archbishop Carroll as a transfer wing who doesn't shy away from getting involved in the dirty work such as battling for 50/50s, earning extra possessions on the offensive glass and sprinting the floor with purpose. He's a strong, 6-foot-6 forward who can slide down a position or even two against smaller 5's thanks to his ability to maintain leverage with a sturdy base. His production comes more off sheer effort than polish skill at this point, but Yeboah has shown flashes in operating effectively in 1-on-1's off the catch in the mid-post or the wing.    19.
