Ja’Zyere came out and set the tone yet again for the SMCA Mustangs in a statement win at the Crusader Tipoff. Thompson is an elite athlete that can make some effortless plays on both sides of the floor. His biggest standout to me, aside from the highlight dunks and strong contact finishes at the rim, was seeing him own the assignment of guarding the opposing team’s biggest scoring threat. While Ja’Zyere ran the offense and scored and assisted for baskets all game, he shut down his matchup and held him to a quiet game. Picked up steals and blocks from the help positions and hustled back after each point to face-guard his man on the other end. Special player with another special performance.

Clearly one of the more dynamic wing guards in his class, he finds several ways to make his presence felt. Thompson is quick, crafty, and knows how to make an impact on both ends of the floor. He scored from all levels, created for himself and others, and showed the ability to play with or without the ball in his hands. Thompson rebounds well for his size and displays nice instincts as an on-ball defender. Next in his development process is working on getting stronger, as it would make him a more physically imposing defender. Ja’Zyere has no issues mixing it up well from all levels. Good pull-up jumper with the ability to attack off the bounce. Throughout this fall Thompson has showed that he is going to be a major piece in the Southern Maryland Christian success for the next two years.

Ja’Zyere was one of my most eye-catching performers of the day when catching SMCA once again on Saturday. He’s an athletic wing that can do it all offensively. Thompson has a high IQ out on the perimeter that allows him to see and create plays that others on the floor can’t Great size as a guard and showed a true feel for the game, driving the ball and kicking when necessary, taking the right shots and making the right passes. His defense helped the team turn defense to offense at a high rate with his length and activity in the passing lanes. Ja’Zyere seemed to be on a differnet level Saturday that helped the Mustangs take charge at The Challenge.
