Expert Analysis
William Lloyd III | Prep Hoops Scout
Carlos has shown strong improvement throughout the season, and he’s becoming a more consistent scorer each time out. He’s tough inside and uses his strength and base to power through defenders. Carlos can score in the paint, but he’s also capable of stepping out and knocking down shots along the perimeter. He’s been more efficient off the dribble lately, which has helped his overall impact. Defensively, he provides solid help and stands his ground underneath the rim. Ferguson’s stock is rising because the production is becoming more reliable, and his physical presence matters on both ends.

Ferguson remains one of the more under appreciated wings in the DMV given the amount of categories he touches on the box score, his blend of length and athleticism as well as his overall positional versatility. The 6-foot-7 southpaw averaged 17.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3 assists in the two-game slate as McDonogh suffered a loss against a very good Haverford group, but rebounded nicely the next day with a win over Montverde CBD. Ferguson’s effort was instrumental in the win, specifically with the way he can get to the free-throw line, which he converted 10-of-14 for the game. He showed plenty of flashes as a sophomore, but Ferguson is putting together consistently productive outings as he becomes one of the foundational pieces this season for head coach Gerry Abrams.

Carlos was a bright spot for the short-handed McDonogh Eagles on Sunday. Did a great job attacking his matchup off-the-dribble, utilizing his speed advantage matching up with a 7-footer. Carlos showed true effort defensively, never letting the heigh mismatch affect his effort level defensively and on the glass. Sent back a lot of shots in the paint and used his athleticism on the other end, punishing smaller defenders and finishing around the height at the rim. Versatile showing in a game where Carlos was called upon much more than usual.

-Ferguson turned in the most productive performance of the day in a big win over South River. The gridiron star used his athletic tools and IQ to impact the game as an aggressive rebounder at both ends of the floor that also showed off an improved touch around the basket. His handle has improved to give him more confidence putting the ball on the floor vs guard and forwards alike to work his way to the basket. His finishing bag around the rim and footwork have also improved quite a bit, as has his C+S ability from the midrange. With an offensive skillset that is rounding to form, good physical tools, and a leadership role within McDonogh’s program– I expect that he is a name likely to break out over the next few months as he proves his value on the basketball court.

Season stats: 8.3 points a game, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal a game. Carlos is one of the more intriguing prospects in the sophomore class due to his unique blend of size and shooting touch. He has an advanced perimeter skillset with catch and shoot ability from beyond the arc to go with a couple of go to moves in the mid-post. He will be an impact player on the McDonogh School program for the next two years. Carlos is one of the top multi-athletic prospects in the area also thriving football (WR) prospect as well.

Long one of our favorites within his class across the DMV, Ferguson is off to a fresh start with a new AAU club and looks to be reaping the benefits already. Continuing to blossom physically while both growing and getting more explosive athletically, the southpaw brings eye-popping size to the perimeter with a versatile two-way skillset to match. More of a defensive specialist when he first worked onto our radar, Ferguson has grown steadily with his ball skills while beginning to develop into a reliable shooter off the catch from the perimeter. Also a standout on the football field, Ferguson could possess a really enticing upside if he’s ever to lock in on hoops full-time.

One of the best-looking prospects in the class of 2027. The bouncy lefty young wing hit jumpers off the dribble from 17′ or attacked the rim and finished in traffic. He has solid handles and is a good passer-off the move. He is only a freshman, so he has plenty of time to extend range and continue to hone his skills.

-Placing a few chips down on Ferguson long-term as a wing prospect that plays extremely hard, passes well from the perimeter, and can finish plays above the rim. The all-around skillset was intriguing with Team Melo before an ankle injury sidelined him for the last few sessions of AAU. The lefty is getting adjusted to his body after a growth spurt but uses the physicality he plays with on the gridiron to be a switchable defender that can guard multiple spots for a McDonogh team that could make some noise in the MIAA.
