Jones continues his production and while he was limited to just one day of action after suffering an injury that kept him sidelined for Sunday’s action only, he gave enough on Saturday to be included on this list. What stood out to me about Jones in comparison to other viewings was how quickly he can get into his shot off the catch. On this Showcase team, he has enough playmaking guards that allow him to space out and take advantage off their paint touches to show off his touch from outside. While he had to present as a five man for New Town this high school season due to lack of size on the roster, I categorize him more as a 4/3 at this point, with real potential to make the transition to a full-time 3 in college.

Jones quickly made his presence known at New Town and county-wide as one of the better forwards in the Baltimore County/City public school scene. Although the Titans saw their season come to an end at Marriotts Ridge in the regional title game, Jones put forth an All-County worthy season averaging 20 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks per game. He’s a skilled four-man with potential to move out to the wing with further development. He plays with an intentional motor, athletic pop around the rim and good touch stepping away from it. Jones continues to progress up on our board and now goes from No. 67 to No. 45.

-The skill level has come a long way as his offensive game is on display in new threads at New Town. Jones was effective working out of the block, short corner, and high post areas as a wing that can shoot, pass or drive. He’s added weight to his frame to score more effectively through contact around the rim and has refined his footwork to maneuver through double teams to create better scoring angles. Jones started things off with a good seal and finish on the BLOB, knocked down a face-up baseline jumper, snagged an O board and hit a point-blank putback floater, and did a great job of kicking ahead to teammates in transition as soon as he grabbed defensive rebounds. Love the diversity in his skillset and improvements to both his upper body strength and leaping ability–decent pathway to a scholarship career at the next level if his development continues its upward trajectory.

Joshua has delivered some major performances for New Town this year, and he’s building his reputation as a big-moment player. He’s hit clutch baskets throughout the season, including a game-winner that speaks to the confidence he plays with late. At the Governor’s Challenge he was one of the top overall performers, averaging 18.5 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists per game. That type of stat line shows his versatility as an all-around player. He’s aggressive offensively and his game has expanded well, now showing the ability to score at all three levels. Joshua’s work ethic and production has built real anticipation for a huge senior year. The MSJ transfer is trending in the right direction and looks like a prospect who’s ready to elevate.

I’ve covered Jones pretty extensively here since our Expo, but it was all well deserved praise as the Mount St. Joseph transfer is evolving into one of the better public school prospects in Baltimore. While its been a season of ups-and-downs from a winning perspective for New Town, a couple of mid-season transfers to bolster their backcourt needs should result in a streak of wins in county play. As for Jones, he’s been one of the few consistent factors for head coach Derek Wise. A skilled, 6-foot-6 forward who you can run your offense through from the top of the key or the mid-post, Jones has shown efficiency as a scorer as well as a decision-maker. He anticipates double teams well and is always keyed in on where the rotation came from in order to locate the open teammate. He holds down the effort on the boards, poses as a switchable defender and can finish with authority when he has a clear takeoff path on his way to the bucket.

As the season continues, I fully expect Jones to continue on his upward trajectory as he takes on the primary scoring role for the first time of his career at the varsity level. Not only is he answering the call as a scorer, but he’s also providing consistent value on the glass, altering shots around the rim and making good decision as a passing hub from the high-post. The 6-foot-6 junior averaged 18.5 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists per game as New Town went 1-1 in their Gov. Challenge showing. As a team, they depend heavily on Jones and 2027 wing

, but help is on the way in the new semester, particularly in the backcourt that should lift this team’s ceiling significantly in county play.

Jones impressed with his ability to stay within himself throughout the two games I evaluated of him. He shows some flashes of skill and can score from behind the arc if left open. I like how active he is on the glass and has no issue doing the dirty work.

Jones caught my eye at the Maryland Expo in late September and he doubled down on why folks should pay attention to him this season as he steps in as the bell cow for New Town. He plays with an inspired motor, is much more skilled than the eye test would lead you to believe, and still has plenty of potential to be tapped into over the next few years. Look for Jones to be a constant double-double threat anytime he takes the floor in Baltimore County Public School play.

It was my first time getting live eyes on Jones and he didn’t disappoint. He’s a high-motor forward with a willingness to do all of the little things well, even in a setting such as this that’s dominated by guards. Jones was an active screen-setter and oftentimes benefited from his action by rolling hard to the rim where he finished strong. He brought multiple efforts on the offensive glass, ran the floor with purpose and his presence on the defensive end around the rim was felt by altering a nearly a dozen drives by opposing guards. Jones is expected to fill a huge role this season at New Town.

Joshua impressed me over the summer so far while watching him with TTO. He showed some great skill defensively and more confidence offensively that I had not seen before. Liked the way he was able to both protect the basket and come down with the rebound to end the possession consistently. He was a major factor in the painted area on both sides of the ball. Showed a smoothness to his game as he let the offense come to him over the games, shooting when open and in rhythm and finishing plays under the rim. If this is carried into the next season with MSJ, Joshua should see more and more consistent minutes as a strong role player off the bench.
