Around the State: Tuesday Sectional Semi Notebook

Tuesday night was the first evening of the sectional semis with a little over half of the games being played.  Here is our notebook looking around the state at what happened on a big night of hoops!   4A   Rockford Auburn pulled off the first major upset of the tournament as they beat last year's runner up Warren by a final of 84-76.  It was North Dakota State star [player_tooltip player_id='1845353' first='Amir' last='Danforth'] who lit it up as he scored 30 points in the win while [player_tooltip player_id='2323314' first='Mikwan' last='Marshall'] had 18 points.  Warren senior [player_tooltip player_id='2437519' first='Braylon' last='Walker'] had 33 points and top ranked junior [player_tooltip player_id='2323571' first='Jaxson' last='Davis'] finished with just 9 with seven of them coming on free throws.   Richwoods topped Normal 68-67 in a controversial ending which I covered.  We have a full story.  Short story is controversial foul call at buzzer.  [player_tooltip player_id='2531961' first='Amarion' last='Smith-Holley'] drains all three of them as #3 sophomore in state drops 29.  Fellow top 5 2028 [player_tooltip player_id='2542412' first='Chase' last='Kasten'] with 25 points for Normal Community.   Fremd beat Stevenson 74-65.  It was a much larger lead at times, but they held on.  Illinois State commit [player_tooltip player_id='2839970' first='Jordan' last='Williams'] had 24 points while sharp shooter [player_tooltip player_id='2540096' first='Rafael' last='Pinto'] dropped 25.  Stevenson's two stars [player_tooltip player_id='1552481' first='Rocco' last='Pagliocca'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1964163' first='Donovan' last='Williams'] each had 23 points.   Benet had no issues with the upstart Yorkville squad rolling 67-30 behind 19 points and 13 rebounds from [player_tooltip player_id='2323620' first='Ed' last='Stasys'] while Colin Stack went for 19 points and 9 rebounds.  [player_tooltip player_id='2194655' first='Braydon' last='Porter'] had 12 points for Yorkville.   DePaul Prep won over New Trier 56-38.  [player_tooltip player_id='1435692' first='Rykan' last='Woo'] led the way with 16 points while Toledo commit [player_tooltip player_id='1845360' first='Rashaun' last='Porter'] had 15 points and 7 rebounds.  [player_tooltip player_id='1554516' first='Christopher' last='Kirkpatrick'] had 11 points in his final game.   Glenbard East over Wheaton Warrenville South 68-61.  [player_tooltip player_id='2411580' first='Jacob' last='Marynowski'] was a standout with 28 points.  Their star [player_tooltip player_id='2839863' first='Michael' last='Nee'] had 13.  [player_tooltip player_id='2415521' first='Danny' last='Snyder'] dropped 12 points.   Hersey topped Palatine 64-50.  Palatine was led by Illini football commit [player_tooltip player_id='2823585' first='Tony' last='Balanganayi'] with 30 points.    Rockford Guilford over Waukegan 65-57.  Branden Chatman led the way with 21 points while [player_tooltip player_id='2750036' first='Rickey' last='Woods'] chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds.  Cordell Spencer had 9 points.  The senior trio for Waukegan finished their careers with [player_tooltip player_id='1845356' first='Jaali' last='Love'] (22 points), [player_tooltip player_id='1552444' first='Carter' last='Newsome'] (17 points), and [player_tooltip player_id='1845351' first='Simereon' last='Carter'] (11 points).   Homewood Flossmoor advances against Brother Rice 64-54.  [player_tooltip player_id='2467517' first='Darrius' last='Hawkins'] scored 20 points and dropped 9 dimes.  Big night for [player_tooltip player_id='3427156' first='Jayden' last='McDonald'] with 17 points in the win.  [player_tooltip player_id='2540205' first='John' last='Brown IV'] had 7 points and 6 rebounds. [player_tooltip player_id='2823126' first='Joseph' last='Niego'] went for 10 on the other side.   Curie won over St. Laurence 64-57.  [player_tooltip player_id='2823632' first='Kendall' last='Holliday'] scored 21 points and [player_tooltip player_id='2734369' first='Justin' last='Oliver'] had 11 points.  For St. Laurence sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='2385372' first='Noah' last='Corro'] and junior [player_tooltip player_id='2323617' first='Markese' last='Peoples'] each had 14 points.   3A   Decatur MacArthur over Champaign Centennial 85-63. [player_tooltip player_id='2323268' first='Tishawn' last='Clemmons'] went for 29 points. Centennial was led by JJ Lewandowski with 25 points.   Wheaton St. Francis scored a 52-44 win over Lemont.  They got 16 points from [player_tooltip player_id='2382444' first='Tanner' last='Hozian'] while [player_tooltip player_id='2389886' first='Ben' last='Whorlow'] chipped in 15.  [player_tooltip player_id='3360997' first='Ryan' last='Crane'], [player_tooltip player_id='2749990' first='Zane' last='Schneider'], and Lucas Glotzbach each had 12 for Lemont.   Morton over La Salle Peru 69-48.  Alex Mckie continues to light it up with 27 points.    Hillcrest over Thornton 62-49.  [player_tooltip player_id='2540107' first='Jamir' last='Ratliff'] dropped 33 points in the victory.  For Thornton [player_tooltip player_id='2947687' first='Dakari' last='Nesbitt'] had 17 points.   Hyde Park moves on with a big win over Little Village 68-36.  [player_tooltip player_id='2864925' first='Amare' last='LeFlore'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2962331' first='Lonnie' last='Mosley'] each posts 15 points.  [player_tooltip player_id='2540031' first='Kye' last='Ward-Owens'] had 12 points while [player_tooltip player_id='2734383' first='Jacobi' last='Walls'] drops a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.   Lake Forest tops St. Viator 59-55 as [player_tooltip player_id='2839873' first='Dominic' last='Mordini'] goes for 28 points.   Kaneland remains undefeated with a 64-44 win against Rockford East.  Top 10 junior [player_tooltip player_id='2391672' first='Jeffrey' last='Hassan'] paced them with 15 points while Rockford East got 21 from guard [player_tooltip player_id='2105424' first='Brian' last='Harper'].   2A   Leo over Morgan Park 68-38.  [player_tooltip player_id='2532329' first='Jeremiah' last='Echols'] had 23 points while Brian Kizer dropped 21 in the win.  [player_tooltip player_id='2734410' first='Jacque' last='Lewis'] and Daniel Wallace each had 13 points for the Mustangs.   Benton pulled off the upset at Nashville in double OT against the Hornets 41-39.  [player_tooltip player_id='1552415' first='Maddox' last='Ritzel'] finished his career with 11.   Quincy Notre Dame advances 59-47 over Roxana as QND got 20 points from Gavin Doellman and 18 points out of Jace Allensworth.   Perspectives MSA Joslin got the victory against Butler 55-51.  Tayshawn Marble went for 23 points while Paxton Ligon scored 13 points.    1A   Routt wins over Bunker Hill 67-50.  Adam Abell leads the way with 26 points.  Brady Turner had 17 points as well.  Peter Jarden went for 13 points and [player_tooltip player_id='2853081' first='Bryce' last='Yates'] had 11 for Bunker Hill.   Pecatonica over Newman Central Catholic 70-66.  [player_tooltip player_id='2796681' first='Zion' last='Braimah'] had 34 points for Pecatonica.  George Jugerman had 22 points for Newman.   Leroy over St. Thomas More 59-51.  Owen Yaeger led the way with 16 points while Brodie Grey had 12.  Hayden Bates contributed 10 points and Nate Kaufmann scored 8.  For Leroy Brycen Umstattd and Jordan Cox both had 16 points while Devon Bollhorst had 12.   Ottawa Marquette over Hinckley Big Rock 54-51.  Alex Novotney had 21 points for Marquette with Luke McCullough dropping 13.  For Hinckley-Big Rock it was Marshall Ledbetter scoring 21 points and Luke Badal contributing 19.   Altamont over Tuscola 61-58.  Sophomore Cooper McManaway had 21 points in the win.  Luke Kurtz dropped 20 points in the loss.
