Each year, some of the top teams in the state — and even the country — come out of the St. Louis metro area. This year is no different. The area is once again home to several quality teams and well-established programs with their sights set on finishing the season as state champions. I'll highlight a few of those programs and the standout players leading the way as they head into the postseason.

Chaminade | Class 6

Winning 20 games against one of the toughest schedules in the state — and even the region — is impressive by any standard. And right now, Chaminade is trending at exactly the right time. They'll enter the postseason fresh off a dominant win over another team on this list, Webster Groves, and they look more than ready for what's ahead.

The Red Devils' roster is deep, balanced, and productive at nearly every position. This is a group that genuinely looks like it should be thinking “state title or bust” from here on out.

They're led by one of the top point guards in the state, [player_tooltip player_id='1446576' first='Jonny' last='Jordan'], a true floor general and shot-maker who can control tempo, create his own offense, and deliver in big moments. On the perimeter, rising prospects [player_tooltip player_id='2536464' first='Tricy' last='Collins'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2569202' first='Elijah' last='Poniewaz'] continue to make their presence felt, stretching the floor and adding another layer of scoring punch. Inside, Mohamed Kourouma and [player_tooltip player_id='2822906' first='Jesiah' last='Buchanan'] bring size, strength, and physicality that anchor the lineup.

Put it all together, and it's easy to see why this team feels complete — and why they're going to be a tough out when it's win-or-go-home time.

De Smet Jesuit | Class 6

De Smet is another program closing the regular season on a high note, riding a three-game winning streak that includes a statement victory over Vianney. That win showcased exactly what this group is capable of when everything is clicking. All season long, they've been mentioned as one of the top two or three teams in Missouri — and now it's time to see if they can cash in on that reputation.

Built around a guard-heavy lineup, De Smet is powered by a dynamic three-headed attack in the backcourt: [player_tooltip player_id='2346155' first='Jordan' last='Boyd'], [player_tooltip player_id='2334929' first='Will' last='Foulk'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1850530' first='Ian' last='Thomas']. Each brings a different style and skill set to the floor — whether it's pace, scoring ability, or playmaking — which makes the trio especially difficult to prepare for. When they're in rhythm, they can control a game and put constant pressure on opposing defenses.

Add in [player_tooltip player_id='1873550' first='Braden' last='Butler'] and his ability to stretch the floor with his shooting, and the balance of this roster really starts to show. His presence complements the backcourt trio extremely well and elevates the team from simply talented to a legitimate threat to be cutting down the nets when it's all said and done.

Webster Groves | Class 5

If there's a team in Missouri that challenged itself more with its schedule this season, I'd like to see them. The defending state champions approached this year with the mindset of a group determined to protect its crown, and they built their schedule to reflect that. There have been ups and downs along the way, sure — but they've never shied away from top-level competition.

[player_tooltip player_id='2334870' first='Scottie' last='Adkinson'] obviously leads the charge and may very well be the best all-around player in the state. When you have a talent like that on your roster, you always have a chance. He impacts the game in so many ways, and his presence alone changes how opponents have to prepare.

What makes this group especially dangerous, though, is the number of players who excel alongside him and provide real depth. [player_tooltip player_id='2569194' first='Bryce' last='Millien'], [player_tooltip player_id='2339267' first='Jayden' last='Woods'], [player_tooltip player_id='1651977' first='Quincy' last='Williams'], [player_tooltip player_id='2509009' first='Jackson' last='Tabash'], and Peter Oliver are all key pieces of the Statesmen's attack. With the majority of them capable of knocking down shots from beyond the arc, they're able to space the floor effectively and play off Adkinson's strengths.

All together, you've got a battle-tested, well-balanced group that truly complements one another — the kind of team nobody wants to see when everything is on the line.

MICDS | Class 5

MICDS has rattled off six straight wins and clearly has its eyes set on a deep postseason run in what feels like a wide-open field. Sitting at 21–4, with several notable wins and a few tight losses, they've built the kind of résumé that offers both momentum and valuable learning experiences. That combination can be dangerous this time of year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1790003' first='Brandon' last='Clemens'] leads the way as the team's top scorer and primary perimeter threat. His ability to stretch the floor sets the tone offensively and forces defenses to extend.

What makes this group special is its versatility. They feature several players with similar size and build, giving them interchangeable pieces across the lineup — guys who are skilled enough to defend inside and out while also bringing different dynamics on the offensive end. [player_tooltip player_id='2348242' first='Tyler' last='Ray'], [player_tooltip player_id='2090481' first='Jason' last='Stokes'], Gabe Weaver, and [player_tooltip player_id='1666704' first='Keshon' last='Mims'] are all major contributors to the attack, and each is capable of having a breakout night.

At their best, MICDS excels when they're attacking the basket and creating space in the paint. Everything else flows from that — kick-out threes, second-chance opportunities, and open looks in rhythm. If they can consistently establish that inside presence, they'll be a tough team to slow down.

Vianney | Class 5

While the back half of their schedule has had its bumps, Vianney is still very much a team to beat this spring. When they're playing at their best, they look every bit like a true contender. They've got a legitimate seven-footer anchoring the middle and a collection of players who can knock down threes in bunches.

That combination makes them a nightmare matchup. Their ability to space the floor while still maintaining a real interior presence isn't something you see every day. [player_tooltip player_id='2564264' first='Mamadou' last='Barry'] may be young, but he's climbing the rankings quickly and establishing himself as a legitimate force inside. His size and developing skill set give Vianney a foundation to play through on both ends.

On the perimeter, [player_tooltip player_id='2528208' first='Chase' last='Duke'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2090504' first='Ben' last='Karsten'] are two names to keep a close eye on, while [player_tooltip player_id='2346715' first='Brock' last='Long'] and Omar Long are among the better role players in the state. They complement the core extremely well, providing timely shot-making and consistent production from beyond the arc.

If this Vianney group gets hot at the right time, there's no question they can ride that momentum deep into March. The only question is — will it all come together when it matters most?

Vashon | Class 4

When you think about Missouri high school basketball, it's hard not to immediately think of Vashon. The program has dominated play for years and continues to carry itself as one of the more visible names on the national scene. Entering the postseason at 20–3 and having controlled the back half of its schedule, it's clear the Wolverines are gearing up for yet another serious run at a state title.

It's honestly difficult to picture many teams with the personnel to truly match up with Vashon. They're deep, they're skilled at nearly every position, and they've got the horses to lead the way when it matters most.

[player_tooltip player_id='2334898' first='Jimmy' last='McKinney Jr.'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2090498' first='Kain' last='McCaskill'] are the unquestioned leaders, bringing a blend of experience, poise, and influence that sets the tone. [player_tooltip player_id='2334961' first='Leon' last='Powell Jr.'] is coming on strong, adding a long, athletic presence on the wing who can impact the game in multiple ways. [player_tooltip player_id='2239022' first='Khalil' last='Crain'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2569193' first='Braiden' last='Alford'] are more than capable contributors, giving the lineup even more balance and versatility. Inside, [player_tooltip player_id='2536467' first='Christian' last='Potts'] provides valuable size and interior presence — something that could prove crucial if they run into bigger frontcourts in the postseason.

There's little doubt Vashon will still be standing late in the season. The only real question is who, if anyone, around the state can truly challenge them when it's all on the line.

Principia | Class 3

A consensus top-five program in the country, Principia enters the postseason feeling like it's their state title to claim this spring. Their résumé backs it up — just two losses all year, and those came by a combined 16 points against nationally ranked competition. That's about as battle-tested as it gets.

They also have a player whose résumé stacks up with anyone in the state, including [player_tooltip player_id='2334870' first='Scottie' last='Adkinson'] of Webster Groves, and that's [player_tooltip player_id='2352805' first='Quentin' last='Coleman']. The efficiency he's played with this season — especially on the offensive end — has been remarkable. He's the definition of a three-level scorer, capable of finishing at the rim, pulling up in the midrange, and knocking down shots from deep at a sky-high clip. There's no doubt he'll be the head of the snake for Principia throughout March.

And it's not just a one-man show. [player_tooltip player_id='2334910' first='Sekou' last='Cisse'] gives them a physical presence inside with great size, serving as an anchor on both ends of the floor. Around them is a talented collection of secondary pieces in [player_tooltip player_id='1878296' first='Ron' last='Henry'], [player_tooltip player_id='2377735' first='Kingston' last='Money'], [player_tooltip player_id='2348237' first='Wyatt' last='Slay'], and [player_tooltip player_id='2334905' first='Gassim' last='Toure'] — players who fill roles, defend, space the floor, and step up when needed.

At this point, the question might not be whether Principia can win the state title. It may simply be: just how dominant will they be on their way to doing it?

Each year, some of the top teams in the state — and even the country — come out of the St. Louis metro area. This year is no different. The area is once again home to several quality teams and well-established programs with their sights set on finishing the season as state champions. I'll highlight a few of those programs and the standout players leading the way as they head into the postseason.
