While it may not have been Poniewaz’s best weekend, it still highlighted the many ways he can impact a game and how he responds when he isn’t at his best offensively. His size and strength on the perimeter consistently showed up, allowing him to initiate contact, put defenders in difficult positions, and get to the free-throw line — where he was flawless all weekend. He found ways to remain productive and contribute as a scorer even when his shot wasn’t falling. Beyond scoring, he was instrumental in getting his teammates involved and creating opportunities for others. Defensively, he played with a high motor, generating turnovers and helping his team secure extra possessions.

Poniewaz really took off this winter, continuing to progress as the season went on while playing on a loaded Chaminade roster and emerging as one of the focal points alongside Jonny Jordan Jonny Jordan 6'3" | PG Chaminade | 2026 MO . Strong and physical on the perimeter, he was tough to contain off the bounce and attacked the rim in the open floor with real explosiveness. Elijah also showed he can create his own shot while still being effective off the ball, proving to be a very reliable and accurate three-point shooter. He finished the year averaging 13 points and four rebounds per game while shooting 42% from long range. He looks ready to take the keys to the car at Chaminade next winter and should keep that upward trajectory going into the summer.

Love seeing a kid that plays with grit & heart —Poniewaz showcased the type of play in the three-day event. Solid on the ball defender who disrupted actions without needing steals —deflections, timely rotations, and drawn charges all swung possessions. Elijah perimeter shooting 20 points on 7-13 from the field and 3-6 from the three-point line. Shot 3-6 from the free throw line.

Elijah Poniewaz Elijah Poniewaz 6'0" | PG Chaminade | 2028 MO , a 6-0 guard for Chaminade College Prep, showcased his scoring ability with a solid 15-point performance on Friday. The quick trigger southpaw is known for his shooting and ability to create opportunities off the dribble, Poniewaz contributed significantly to his team’s offensive efforts. His ability to penetrate defenses and finish plays, coupled with a confident shooting touch, enabled him to make a notable impact during the tournament.

A 6’0 point guard who is one of the most talented young bucket getters in the state. The young lefty broke into the starting lineup for a talented Red Devils team that reached the Class 6 state finals. He is a thick bodied guard who can create off the dribble with slick handles and three level scoring ability. He had a dominant summer playing for the Missouri Phenom 15Us.

He’s on the point guard list but he scores it like a 2 man. Strong compact frame. Found his openings in gaps of the defense and got through them in a hurry.  Runs the break at a quick rate. Aggressive on both ends to pressure the basketball and keep defense on their heals. Had a couple pick offs to go the other way. For smaller size will still be around the glass to grab opportunities. Definitive contributor next 3 years.

The sturdy 5’10” point guard worked his way into the starting lineup of a Red Devils team that finished second in the Class 6 state tournament. He is physically strong and he plays with plenty of poise that is well beyond his years. He averaged nine points, 3.5 rebounds and two assists while shooting 49 percent from 3-point range.
