Expert Analysis
Daniel Siehndel | Prep Hoops Scout
Another talented player with plenty of upside on the Chaminade roster, Kourouma’s athleticism and agility really stood out this winter, showing he can do a little bit of everything. While providing size and strength up front, he also demonstrated he could defend on the perimeter and attack in the open floor — especially above the rim on lob opportunities — constantly putting pressure on the basket. He averaged nine points and nearly eight rebounds per game this season while shooting 53% from the floor, and those numbers are poised to take an even bigger step next year. Kourouma showed flashes of perimeter shooting, and if he can take that next step this summer as a stretch big, he could develop a complete game to rival the top players in the state.

Hands down the most physically dominant player on the floor for the duration of the night. Mohamed controlled the offensive glass, creating multiple second-chance opportunities and finishing strong at the rim. He displayed both touch and power, including the ability to rise up and finish emphatically with one hand.
Kourouma’s ability to play as a face-up player was also impressive. Mohamed attacked off the dribble with a quick first step and showcased an above-average handle for a player his size. He created space with the ball using pivots and spins, and he was effective operating out of ball screens, consistently finding openings and putting pressure on the defense.

Mohamed Kourouma contributed 12 points on 5-6 shooting, including 2-2 from three-point range. As one of the top underclassmen in the event, Kourouma impressed with his athleticism, scoring in transition, blocking shots, and rebounding. He displayed the ability to handle the ball, score off the dribble, finish through contact, and reliably shoot from the perimeter. Kourouma is poised to be Chaminade’s next Power 5 talent, following in the footsteps of alumni like Jayson Tatum and Bradley Beal.

Kourouma brings an explosive scoring presence to the floor, using his speed, quickness and strength to relentlessly attack the rim. He moves well without the ball, cutting into open lanes and using his body to seal off defenders for easy finishes. His aggressiveness and motor make him a constant threat inside and in transition. To continue elevating his game, continuing to develop his mid range and perimeter shot will make him a complete offensive weapon and much harder to defend. On the other end channeling that same energy and intensity into his defense can help him become a true two way player. If he rounds out those areas, Kourouma has all the tools to push his way onto the ranked list

New to the United States this year, Kourouma impressed with his blend of physical tools, motor, and flashes of offensive skill. A southpaw forward who was among the youngest members of Guinea’s U17 World Cup team, he came off the bench with nonstop energy in both games we evaluated. With a chiseled frame and comfortable movement skills, he brings a load of versatility to the defensive end. Kourouma also shows an ability to take slower forwards or bigs off the bounce from the perimeter and occasionally space the floor from 3. It still shows itself more in flashes at this stage, but there’s a lot to like here moving forward.
