About Braden
Expert Analysis

While De Smet got a massive contribution inside, scoring 40 points in the paint, it was Butler who provided an outside presence. Braden moved well off drives and found open space on the perimeter, knocking down three deep ones on his way to 11 points. His length also made an impact defensively and on the glass, helping the Spartans control both ends of the floor. This victory marked De Smet’s second state championship in the last three years.

De Smet’s top shooter should get plenty of opportunities in Columbia, especially playing alongside Folk, Thomas, and Boyd. Look for Butler’s three-point shooting to be a major factor for the Spartans. His size and length allows him to get his shot off over a variety of defenders, making him a tough cover on the perimeter.
Braden’s rebounding and finishing ability have also shown flashes. He can play above the rim with deceptive explosiveness and length, which adds another dimension to his game. He’s also a threat in transition, as he runs the floor well and covers a lot of ground in the open court. Butler’s impact could be significant — especially in games that are played at a faster pace and get up and down.

Butler was a key piece for De Smet, with his length and activity level standing out. He always seemed to be around the basketball, moving well to find openings and making plays off his teammates.
Offensively, he hit some timely shots, finishing with touch near the rim while also stretching the floor as a shooter. His confidence and willingness to take big shots was evident — he consistently looked to be aggressive and score when it mattered most.
On the defensive end, Butler’s high activity level and ability to stay connected with his teammates helped pace the Spartans at various points throughout the game. He’s the ideal role player, seamlessly complementing De Smet’s deep rotation of primary ball handlers and providing reliable support whenever needed.

Lengthy athletic wing with bounce at the rim. Effective feel from inside and out. Finishes efficiently around the basket utilizing wing span to advantage. Reeled off multiple 3’s in catch and shoot scenarios during 2nd half. A positive fill at the 2 or 3 post high school.
