About Jimmy
Expert Analysis
Daniel Siehndel | Prep Hoops Scout
You definitely can’t forget about McKinney, who’s gotten off to a strong start this spring, especially because of the impact he’s making defensively. Jimmy has been excellent at creating deflections and forcing turnovers, whether he’s guarding the ball or jumping passing lanes. While he’s still continuing to find his rhythm offensively, there have been games where you see the potential on that end. Even so, it’s his overall floor game that consistently shows up. He’s a plus rebounder for his position and has also shown the ability to take command as a facilitator and creator at different points throughout games. This should be a big weekend for McKinney as he looks to continue building confidence offensively while getting in front of more college coaches. He’ll be playing at EYBL Session II in Memphis.

McKinney is another well-known player from Vashon’s storied program who recently picked up an offer from LaSalle, and it looks like this could be the start of a huge recruiting spring and summer for him. His skilled shooting and versatile offensive game have allowed him to lead Vashon this season, consistently performing at his best against the top competition on their schedule. With long strides that cover the floor quickly in transition, he attacks the basket in open-floor situations, making him a handful to deal with when he can play in space.
Defenses are forced to pay close attention to him, which creates opportunities for McKinney to make plays as a passer — he’s unselfish and consistently looks to involve his teammates. Anchoring Vashon’s defense as the head of the snake, he’s a true two-way player, demonstrating the kind of impact that colleges can expect immediately at the next level.

McKinney was absolutely spectacular in their win over Alton. The junior combo guard had it all working in the victory. Silky smooth game getting to his spots for pullup jumpers, shot it well from beyond the arc knocking in four triples, along with getting loose in transition for scores going coast to coast. Utilizes a soft touch finishing game and is a solid passer. He had 21 points.

Just a sophomore, he put on a show. McKinney made at least 6 threes, however, it might’ve been 7 unofficially. Regardless, for a summer showcase game it was impressive. He’s a proficient scorer that has a bright future. Schools in the Midwest should have him on their radar.
