Mitchell, who played his first two high school seasons at Evansville Reitz, had an excellent game on Wednesday helping lead Brad Beal Elite to a win over MOKAN Elite. The versatile 6’6″ wing/forward scored 22 points on 9-14 shooting to go along with 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 5 steals. His strength off of the bounce and as an interior finisher makes him a real matchup problem for opposing defenders.

Mitchell had one of his best games when they needed it the most.  The Indiana native who is TBD on a high school for next year came up huge in this game making key shot at important times including a spin move out of the high post that proved to be the winner.  Thick bodied power forward rebounded well in traffic on both ends.  Was aggressive using his physical advantage to over power defenders then utilizing his nimble footwork around the cup for scores.  He had 22 points (9-14 FG) and 5 rebounds in the BBE win over Mokan.

Mitchell made this list mainly due to his passing ability but his overall offensive versatility is wrapped up into that, as well. The burly-framed 6-foot-7 forward displayed his vision as a trigger guy at the top of the key where he found cutters in stride, hit open shooters in stride and was really effective freeing up ball handlers with screens. Mitchell averaged 10.5 points and four assists during Session IV.

Jaylen Mitchell has size, strength, and motor, and plays above the rim. Mitchell moved up and down the court quickly, making end-to-end plays and dunking the ball while also showing off his smooth midrange jumper. He battled for rebounds and consistently fought for space in the paint. Overall, Mitchell is a good-sized, aggressive, versatile forward who shows potential as a consistent three-level scorer.

New to Spire’s national prep program, Mitchell is one of the most skilled forwards in the country and is ranked between 4th and 12th nationally on Rivals, On3, ESPN and 247. A prospect who has been in the national spotlight for a while now, Mitchell has been playing up with Brad Beal Elite since the first time I watched him at Peach Jam when he was a rising freshman. Now, Mitchell is one of the few 2027 prospects starting for a 17 U EYBL squad and has impressed as a high feel connector piece who is occasionally spacing the floor as well. I’ll look for Mitchell to also work to transform his body at Spire’s state of the art weight room facility over the next two years.

With as good as Evansville Reitz has been this season, it hard not to put their top player and top overall player in the in-state 2027 class on this watchlist. Jaylan Mitchell Jaylan Mitchell 6'7" | PF Vashon | 2027 #93 Nation MO has been good as advertised this season with his outstanding 16.4 ppg, 11.9 rpg, and 5.6 apg on the year. Mitchell is one of the more versatile players you find in the country at this level being able to score in all levels while being impressive in doing so. Evansville Reitz is a dark horse to make it Class 4A State and it starts with Castle.

We know that you know about Prep Hoops Indiana’s #1 prospect in the Class of 2027. However, this article would be remiss to not mention Mitchell’s 22-point, 20-rebound performance as Evansville Reitz moved to 11-0 on the season with a 71-63 win over Paducah Tilghman (KY).
